I'd be curious if the type of seat locks they have are even useful to them. Case in point is mine ends soon from last year (short upgrade).... Still waiting to get OE done...Most likely won't be fully signed off until after my seat lock expires. Not that I want to go anywhere or head to VA ave anytime soon (though I must say the new setup is much safer and very easy for going to and from campus)... They are toast if another AE posts, as now they open themselves up for more movement. Smaller, shorter, more frequent AE's (monthly), would alleviate a lot of these issues I feel.

I am pretty sure the VA "total suck" experience works much more effectively as a seat lock for most than the official seat lock.

Only getting paid six or seven hours to teach yourself a new airplane and the complete and utter lack of schedule control for a year or more go a long way in keeping people stagnant too.

Amen brother Scoop. You’d think I’d learn my lesson by now. I’m at 4 IQs in 8 years, some by choice some not. With SEA ER on the chopping block I’m looking at number 5 soon. At least I can update my frequent dining card at Spondivits.

I went through 4 IQ's and a short course in my first 2 years here. I went through 1 IQ in the next 12 years. I learned my lesson.

And spent most of it complaining about ATL captains!

The Frog and the Scorpion though.

The theoretical temptation on paper of the big 365 is just too enticing.

I never really understood why it’s beneficial to the company to have these 365 day mega bids? Do they force people into seat locks or something? Why not just do a little bid every month with the same 2 year seat lock for whatever they award? Wouldn’t that just make for a steady consistent hum in the training department?

Because (they claim) the longer bid windows generate fewer training events and less turnover. More efficient use of training resources.

Given how underwater we are with training right now, I’d bet a month’s pay they won’t miss the opportunity to use it, and the reported closure of the SEA 7ER base is all the excuse they need. Addicts can’t help themselves.

I guess a 365 day of no schedule control deters people, hence the smaller training churn.
