Because some of the guys who held captain don't have the 1000 hrs of 121 SIC, technically I guess those slots were "unfilled"?

Probably military pilots. They probably make up 40-50% of our new hires, while some may have some 121 time, most probably don’t.

and yeah I definitely think it’s weird you can be awarded CA without meeting the FAA minimum hours to do so, but our union negotiated for it.

Yeah, PIC experience in some multi crew military planes can reduce the hour requirement to 500 121 SIC.

But generally I think everyone getting hired has 1000 hrs turbine time of some kind.
