I don’t think customers are listening to the PAs that closely. They probably won’t remember the names of the pilots. So as far As I’m concerned I don’t care if some one uses my name or not.

I suspect you nailed. When I was a FO, I introduced the capt as Buck Rogers and I was FO John Quest. When I became a capt, I was elevated to Buck Rogers and my Fo was John Quest. Nobody ever mentioned it On the L1011 the engineer was Bandit...sometimes Hadji...but that was a different era where there were no woke police.

I think the ones that do listen are the ones who appreciate it. But you're right even they aren't going to remember... Unless they're stalkers... In which case they already knew our names before we boarded!

If I were able to pick, and I saw Captain “Tufnel” and Captain “Galt” standing next to each other, I’m picking Tufnel 10/10 times.

Don't you mean 11/10 times?

Serious question, would any FOs be put off by the Captain saying their name on the PA? I always thought it was a nice touch when the Captain said both our names.
I don’t mind either just the first names or just the last names. I’m not bothered enough if he says my full name to actually say anything about it, and I’m not irrational either. I know that the odds of something bad happening because someone said my full name on a PA are practically zero.

I mind more when he says which one of us will be flying the leg and then I clang on the landing 😏

Lots of mocking going on here, and most of it totally unjustified (not this post, just using it to springboard off of). I personally know 2 f/a’s who were found by random pax. One on Facebook, and one at her crew hotel. If someone knows your full name, your employer, and base—it’s amazing how much info an online search can turn up. So, make fun of if if it makes you think you’re one of the cool kids, but there’s no good reason any passenger needs to know your full name. First names only. Or better yet, no names at all.

What is your suggestion about name tags on the uniform?

"Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you".

Last name only is already pushing it for some depending on the uniqueness of the name of course. Add the first initial and that's already flirting with the risk curve. Full name is completely uncalled for. The numbing comfort of normalcy bias aside, no one cares first of all, and no one needs to know second of all, the full names of any of the crew. FA's should never display or say their last names in the cotext of PA's or visibile on uniforms. There's really no justification for a nametag in the first place anyway. I know its faux-traditional but too bad; the risk (stalking, harassment, ID theft, etc) albeit small, outweighs the reward which is absolute zero in all cases. Blah blah blah, light winds out of the west, yadda yadda yadda, Grand Canyon-Mississippi-Centralia, blah blah blah pilot names that no sane person cares about and instantly forgets.

Is it the highest threat? Of course not. Its just a basic, easy and free precaution to make certain bad things a little bit harder to do. Are you paranoid when you click your seatbelt on for a quick trip to the store? Make a slightly stronger password than required? Throw the bolt on your room door at night? Why, what are you "afraid" of? See how silly this gets?

Anyone who wants their name on blast can sequin it on their phone holsters.
