A rational for the increased pay for the position because of the job description or duties. I know why it's in demand.

It’s called a market economy.

Market Economies

A market economy is an monetary system where two forces, supply and demand, direct the production of goods and services

Ok I get it, there is no rationale. That's all I wanted to know. And there is no market economy because theirs no market, only a negotiated pay agreement per the PWA.

Wow it's difficult to have an adult debate/conversation on APC, everyone throws some emotion or accusation (troll) when they don't have a response. I'm sure I've done it too.

As a commuter from a no income tax state, this would make me think twice about an SLI job. More than 50% of an SLI pilot pay comes from working in GA. I know of TN, FL and TX commuters no paying GA income tax, but have any actually defended themselves successfully in an audit?

"Federal law provides that certain interstate transportation and commerce employees, such as pilots, are subject to tax in their state of residence and any state in which they earn more than 50 percent of their pay for being a pilot." - Tax Issues Faced by Pilots & Transportation Employees | Where is A Tax Home? (irstaxtrouble.com)

When considering ALL commuting SLIs, company paid lodging is a nice improvement. They still lose per diem, which is a tax free form of expense reimbursement. I'd rather commute to a three day trip with layovers beyond Virginia Ave. The opportunity cost of GS is another reason for avoiding the SLI job.

Why don’t you want to be an SLI?

Airlines have been there, done that (in inflation adjusted dollars) with less efficient fleets and way more pre-consolidation competition.

That doesn't mean it will be fun, and it doesn't guarantee profits will be made. But today's airlines, especially the more well run ones like DL and others, should be able to weather that storm without any panicked fleet or staffing decision making. And just maybe come out the other side with even less competition and more efficiency (i.e. no more SkyBus, even more up-gouging away from regional outsourcing, etc).

Lol. Exactly.

Non sequitur. You are the one who made the (IMO ridiculous) assertion 'there is no reason SLI's should be paid more than line pilots'. It's not anyone else's job to rebut that, it's your job to support it. That said, several posters, including several current SLI's, have rebutted your odd assertion. There is a rationale over the last page or so, you just don't want to see it. Either that, or you are trolling for some strange reason.

Because I like to fly airplanes and hate commuting. I've ben an LCA but Delta doesn't pay well enough for that to make me curious. This is all leverage and that's the heart of my inquiry. Besides nobody wants me teaching canned modules, I'd be bored and ineffective.
