Based on my reading of the PWA and SRH it looks like APDs are processed first and then P/Ds. Is there some work around to use the P/D first and if that doesn't drop the trip use the APD? Or is the only way to do that to wait until the next PCS run and change it to an APD?

TIA
I'm not aware of a workaround, but I also think it would be extremely unlikely that the first PCS run would drive RSV numbers from above 100% to below the 25% threshold to use an APD in a single run. Unless a ton of folks are using APD's for the same day you want.

Thanks, good info. It is a very popular day to get off but I'm going to watch the coverage and maybe try for a swap as well.

very popular day like the 25th? If that’s the day APD and PD and swap all on first run. Remember that day has different APD rules. Check PWA. Good luck.

If it comes to it, it’s very unlikely CS will approve an APD within the APD holiday period (2 days before - 1 after) on the first run.

However, don’t give up on the APD. There are times over the years where pilots have had it ‘hit’ as the day actually approaches. No guarantees, but leave it in, and let it cook…

CS doesn't approve or not approve APDs. Either it is legally awarded by PCS or it isn't.

Are you sure on that? I've had an APD sit for weeks, and suddenly get approved while the coverage stayed more or less the same. PWA says that an APD may be denied, regardless of reserves available, during the 2 days prior and 1 day after the holidays listed.

Thanksgiving/Christmas Exception to Holiday (Day-By-Day) Application
The Thanksgiving and Christmas APD holiday periods are further restricted. If any Day to Be Dropped within these periods does not have positive coverage (A greater than R), the swap or X-day move will be denied, regardless of whether reserve coverage is even worse on a Day(s) to Be Added. Zero or negative coverage on Days to Be Dropped that fall just outside these two holiday periods are subject to the normal Holiday Application.

I spoke with a scheduling committee member. From what was said, the math just changes as the month progresses. Supposedly if it was dropped with an APD, it could have been dropped with a PD.

And knowing scheduling, why would they they select the option to permit APD on a holiday?
