Default VAC Bank Strategy?

I’ve seen this mentioned here in the past and am hoping to take a crack at it in August.

Supposedly we can pull vacation hours out of the VAC bank independent of vacation days. Can anyone confirm this works?

If so where do we do this in icrew? I have a ton of SUPP days (formerly PB days) that were glued to a FEB vacation week and would like to pull some of that time forward into August.

My theory is to use an APD to drop a 4 day, then pull 4 days worth of hours from the vacation bank - not full service bank, which I understand is also an option.

I’d also try to drop a 4 day using an IVD and do the same thing. Basically force some of that unneeded February vacation into August.

Specifically I’m looking in iCrew->Time Cards-> Vacation/Bank/PB Day Balances and see Time and Days broken out separately.

Is this strategy possible?

After getting the drop processed by PCS, call scheduling and tell them that you need a supervisor to apply the VACB code to the dropped days that you want to be paid for.

Thanks.

So say a pilot APD’s a 4 day worth 21:00 and scheduling applies VACB to those days, that will show up as 21 hours of pay in August?

What happens then in FEB where those vacation days originally existed? Do the vacation DAYs still exist in February without vacation TIME? Or do the days disappear as well?

Correct. The VACB will cover the whole value of the trip (or the pro-rated value of each dropped reserve day if on reserve).

In Feb, all of your original vacation days will remain but their value for pay purposes will be reduced by 21 hours for this example.

Good deal. So it sounds like a way to shift pay from one month to an earlier month. Will give it a shot in August.

Thanks!

You can also use it as a IVD drop and the vacation days will move with the drop. You will not get the full 21 hours but might prefer that to a long vacation in Feb with a depleted bank.

PWA 23.I.18. Is the applicable section. Many line schedulers won’t know how to do this, as mentioned you may need a supervisor.

Probably one of the least known tools. Great for essentially moving vacations from winter into summer, especially if your cat is awarded additional IVDs.

I’ve used this several times and have seen pay/credit AND days deducted, and just pay/credit. Having vacation days without pay/credit can make it hard to get a normal pay check for the month. You can fix this with a call to scheduling PRIOR to bids opening for that month.

There’s a form for this now. Don’t even need to call.
Payback Day Request Form on scheduling tab of flight ops. Has an option to apply SUP days to an APD trip.

SUP Days aren’t VACB.

We are talking 3 different things here. If you use vacation bank to cover a shortage the days don’t move. If you use SUP days or a IVD the days move. Once SUP days convert to vacation days you can’t switch them back.
