Let’s say someone upgrades from SEA330B to NYC73NA - a new hire can’t get SEA330B without it first being offered on a subsequent AE.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm genuinely curious but too lazy to dig into the PWA 😂

You should always bid what you want so you can be awarded one of those secondary vacancies you actually want…but they can’t go to new hires.

Just think about it. Say a category like NYC 73NB is fully staffed, so they offer no positions on it on an AE. Then on that AE 75% of the pilots in that category bid out to other bases/fleets. You really think the company can’t use those vacated positions for new hires and has to just let the category implode until the next AE? That makes no sense.

Yes, they absolutely can offer that position to a new hire, assuming that on that current AE no other pilot had a bid in for it. This exact scenario happened on an AE last year, I think it was with the 765?? Anyways there were ~15 secondary positions created that were not on the original posting but they went to new hires not long after the AE closed.

Seems little complicated to figure out truly how many “unbid” positions are available to new hires. Even widgetseniority doesn’t really give a good answer

Yes they can, as long as they’ve gone to current pilots. Every single AE since Feb 2022 has put newhires in 765 secondaries, except the August one. Secondaries 100% can go to newhires.

I do believe this happened with DTW350 last year. There was an AE that had no openings but they couldn’t backfill and subsequently gave it to new hires. This was front of what was to come multiple AE’s of 330/350 to new hires.
