I’m not being hyperbolic. And I’m not surprised you don’t realize this. No offense but the vast majority of Delta CA bubba’s I’ve come across seem to live in an industry bubble. You don’t realize that this job at Delta isn’t what it used to be. It’s a great job. But time and industry trends have eroded the edge that Delta and the other legacies once had. Not a single base? Remotely appealing? There are plenty of reasons to complain, but short of home basing we have pretty good bases unless you live in another major's hub. SLC is appealing from a geography standpoint but the cost to buy a house combined with today’s interest rates makes a single family home anywhere decent there completely out of the question. Same for the rest of our bases. Go hop on Zillow and take a peek at single-family home prices for a 3/2 or 4/2 (average middle class family home size) are in the hub cities we have (DTW not withstanding). At today’s interest rates? Yeah, not happening. You're in "old man yells at cloud" level here. Stick to the complaints such as pilots living in x region would rather base with UA, AA, SWA etc instead of trying to speak for everyone else. |

I can't imagine there is large percentage of pilots who are targeting an airline because of bases, without any regard to proximity of family/ease of commute from a city with family. There isn't a single base, at any airline, that I would willingly move to unless my family was there.

And you probably think many of us new guys seem very entitled. Somewhere in the middle is reality. I’m not wrong and neither are you. But there’s no denying that for a lot of prospective new hires Delta’s based simply are not attractive. The industry is evolving like it or not. Positive space commuting or increasing bases to include more affordable mid-sized cities are real advantages Delta can capture.

Shoot been here almost 6 years, would love to move to base (SLC) just can't afford it unless I want to massively down grade from what I have. Took the upgrade sooner than I would have liked to help offset the cost but still housing costs are staggering these days. I truly don't understand how people afford living these days.
