Obviously BOS 320 is coming but I could maybe see AUS, MCO or RDU in the future…not anytime soon though unfortunately.

A tactic by UAL to recruit new hire pilots who want to live in a low tax state and drive to work. Prob also angled at WN pilots who woke up and decided the 737 for the next 30 years is going to get old fast.

If Ed wants to use low revenue destination as a reason to not have a pilot base there, then I want to be paid significantly more than my UAL, AA WN and B6 counterparts, because we only have one base in a low-ish cost of living area when taxes, housing, etc are factored in. (DTW)

When I was an engineer, the same job paid more in NYC than in Casper, Wyoming. Standard of living was similar, but they definitely paid me more working out of the NYC office, because of taxes, housing, etc being way more than WY.

This will make it much easier for United to recruit those Spirit, Frontier, and JetBlue pilots who live in MCO and LAS and want to stay there.

From another source this has more to do with not having enough eligible pilots to upgrade due to their 1 year on property rule. So, they are targeting these two locations that have lots of senior pilots. Just relaying another possible angle to the decision.

Also, my buddy over at Spirit says their DTW base is have a reduction in Feb. Apparently it's driving some of their FOs to come to Delta, as upgrade there in DTW would stretch to 8-10 years.
