The steep reduction in cost of the DPMP definitely changes the calculus. If you like the HSA, but also like having contractual protection, the new HD-DPMP is probably something to look at.
OTOH, many people overlook that the deductible and OOP of the DPMP come out of the same buckets. It's not much more expensive than the Gold/HD-DPMP for a family. We're talking about probably less than $60 per paycheck. Then you don't care about in network or out of network. Just go see whoever, and it doesn't matter.

Would like some advice from the folks who are more experienced with this insurance stuff than I am. My situation is that I am married with no kids yet. We are young, and I am pretty healthy, but my wife has some recurring health issues. Nothing too crazy, but enough that she is at the doctor a lot. We also might be thinking about kids sometime next year.
Looking at the Gold vs. Silver HSA, I am struggling to find a reason to not pick silver. If I were doing family then sure, the OOPM is way higher on silver. But for just the two of us, they have the same individual deductible, with silver having a slightly higher deductible for the two of us. It is well within the realm of possibility that my wife hits the deductible or even the OOPM, but if I took the premiums difference between gold and silver and put that towards maxing out the HSA, then it seems like I am coming out pretty far ahead. Even if I have significant health stuff pop up too, I am not coming out ahead with the gold instead of the silver, because of the higher premiums. Am I missing something? Is there some difference in level of care or what doctors are covered between the two?
I have looked at the DPMP too, but am struggling to make the math work with the higher premiums and no HSA. I wish I could find a document comparing all the plan details side by side, but I haven't been able to find one yet or maybe it isn't released yet. I am just piecing this all together from different places on open enrollment HQ.
Edit: I did find a min/max cost comparison, and both the minimum and the maximum shows lower for Silver HSA than Gold/DPMP-HD or DPMP

Yeah but that is a life event and qualifies you to change insurance options.

The way I see it, you'll have to spend roughly $5,500 out of picket on the silver before the gold/DP-HDP is more advantageous. Based on roughly $2500 premium difference and $3000 family deductible on DP-HDP.
But yeah, you'll could get burned if you have more unexpected expenses... depends on what kind of cash and financial/health risks you want to take.

We now have 10 plans to choose from? I think the way to look at insurance these days is to consider it catastrophic insurance only. Plan on paying for everything out of pocket, do the shoebox HSA to stash away for retirement and pick the lowest HSA plan.
