This company is plagued by people thinking their saving a penny. But missing the dollar flying over their head.

Open? Sorta. Resumed the pre-Covid frequency? Not even close. China has 9 flights amongst all carriers from all US airports total.

Absolutely!! They also never seem to leave their ATL cubicles to find out how the operation really works or doesn't.

From Aviation Week... an EB quote
“The story of Delta is one of cash, one of free cash,” he added. So far in 2023, the airline has recorded the 20 highest cash sale days in company history, with nearly 60% of Delta’s revenues being non ticket-driven. Business travel levels are only about 80% recovered when compared to 2019—by traditional measure.

Maybe they are more concerned about the bigger revenue generator......which it appears does not come from fling airplanes..... So they don't need to leave their cubicle?

Missed that one. Probably didn't say what our cash source was. Didn't Ed say we were adequately staffed for the summer?

Thanks, good, quick read. I saw your request to go diving into the financials. Alas, that is not in my skillset.

New here... I saw an article stating that Delta plans to retire the 717s by December 2025. Any rumor or idea when they plan on starting to phase them out?

What was the date on that article?? Zero plans to phase out the fleet that early. They're in the middle of bringing back the last ~15 or so more out of storage so soon we'll be flying every single one we've got that isn't being parted out. Last I heard was possibly retiring the fleet around 2030, and that will probably slip further back barring another black swan event. We're so desperate to get seats into the system that we're flying the Lion Air 737-900s without wifi, IFE, or the full cabin retrofit.

Forecasting a retirement date for 717 (let alone any airplane) is laughable. Baring a compelling reason (ADS-B for the -88?), there’s no way to know when the 717s will retire. Heck, we were flying DC-9s into the 2010s!

The 717s will be around for the foreseeable future.
