It’s always funny going into a bank and asking for $100 in $2s

For the walk-arounds during fall I have a zip up black fleece.

How does it fit over your required uniform coat?

My wool coat fits over the top just fine. I made sure to get one that was just long enough to cover the bottom of the blazer. I won’t win the “toughest guy doing the -20° walk around in a short sleeve shirt” award, but I also won’t have frost bitten nipples.

Not a good look on anyone! :-)

I suspect the CPO will be in force for uniform compliance (button jackets, hats, backpacks, ear buds, ...) once the new suits are here.

Funny thing about $1 bills. Years ago, when FA's took cash for liquor sales, some chuckelhead in steerage would pull out $100 to pay for a $4 beer. Sometimes the FA would come up to the flight deck looking for change for $100. As a FE, I would ask if they thought the pax was looking for free st*t. If the FA was perturbed at the pax's "scamming" behavior, I would reach into my suitcase and pull out a banded package of $1 bills equaling $100. for her $100 bill.
We all got a chuckle at the pax reaction when the FA gave them $96 in change, all in ones.

This was back in the day of fight engineers, $4 beers, people actually used money, and Delta was not cashless. I know.....unimaginable! Right?

“Frost-Bitten Nipples” would be a great name for a rock band.

Me too but I suspect it is already here.

demon llama 09-28-2023 08:49 AM

what would make a hat more commutable? Making it collapsible?

Making it optional.

Bingo

If there was one thing that actually differentiated a DL pilot, it was the Double Breasted Jacket. I still can't believe they are letting go that brand image, but won't let go of the stupid hat...

It’s what our customers care about. The gutted SkyMiles program won’t deter any of our HVCs as long as we continue to wear hats.

There are pilots here who think when they put their hat on it gives them some superior authority.

It's the pilots that can't tolerate change in the uniform. Every time options (double and single breasted, outdoor wear, etc) are suggested you get pilots bloviating about how "uniform" means everyone has to look the same.

This. I bet there could have been plenty of useable and smart uniform options by now…..if it weren’t for pilots who’s whole identity is wrapped up in that hat and brass buttons.

haha that makes sense. I don't mind the hat. But I wouldn't mind ditching the hat either. As a former mil guy, it's a little (a lot) weird wearing a hat around indoors anyway.

I answer to brass buttons at home.

I always wondered why small bills didn't make sense. Volume was all I could think of and maybe usury laws when you charge $3.50 for 10 $1s. But smaller bills would increase frequency of use I always thought.

hockeypilot44 09-30-2023 10:36 AM

I went to the fitting. Just occurred to me I didn’t order a hat. Was I supposed to?

PilotBases 09-30-2023 10:37 AM

What does Hat 2.0 look like? How different can it be?

They haven't rolled out new hats yet. I asked them during the fitting and they said that will be the next stage and they gave me no specifics on what commuter friendly could mean.

The new guy 09-30-2023 01:14 PM

I was told at my fitting the hats won’t come until 2025. Don’t shoot the messenger.

The pants ran an inch or two big. The double breasted fit true to size. I thought the single breasted ran small. I would have had to gotten a size bigger for single-breasted, then had it tailored to have the waist taken in. That will probably be my captain jacket. In the meantime, ordered double breasted just because it didn’t need any modifications.

tennisguru 09-30-2023 04:34 PM

So if we are unable to attend a fitting and have to order in the blind, will there be a process to return/replace items that don’t fit?

As a point of reference for others, the Tailored fit pants were spot on for me in size and so was the double breasted jacket.

Agree with the jacket comments. Double fit just right, single ran a bit small.

Inseam measurement?

The pant inseam was weird. I’m a 30to31….and the fitter measured 29.5. I asked about that being short and the fact the drop-down menu started at 29” for a regular length. She said the inseam measurement was a bit lower on these pants…something about how it’s measured from the seam. Maybe…or maybe I’ll be that pilot with obnoxiously short pants. If that’s the case…I’m switching to yellow socks.

I told them all the sizes I am for jacket and pants and everything fit perfectly the first time (blazer and tailored pants).

Both the jacket and pants went on the smaller side of my 'usual' window. From my experience and what everyone else here is saying, I'd suggest people order small/a size down.

I had the same issue for the inseam though. Normally I'm a 30", but they measured me at 27.5". The crotch didn't seem that much lower than usual, but if I'm not the only one, I guess it is.
