No, because there’s more there than a mall or Irish pub. If that’s your thing, more power to you. Hard pass.

I like the SFO hotel…the history of it is pretty cool. And I can walk to tons of stuff that makes SFO…SFO.

My beef with HNL is that we stay at a hotel that locals even recognize as a horrible spot. We are in HNL, aren’t on Waikiki, close to Diamond Head, or even close to a beach.

But hey, the mall is close. Just in case I want to go to target 🙄

You’re lying to yourself if you think that hotel is nice. I wouldn’t take my family there.

Agreed, probably worst hotel we stay at quality wise. Pretty lame to fly all that way just to be at that hotel and next to a mall.

Ya HNL is nothing special. Ala Moana beach park is also the only place I’ve ever been yelled, sworn at, just for being a haole (twice) and I used to live in Hawaii. Was literally doing nothing more that walking down the street 🤷‍♂️.

Agree on SFO food! Always down to try the local cuisine, even in places like LOS where I was told I’d be back minus my kidneys. That being said, they do have a real homeless problem. Last time I was there we had two men standing in the street on the way to the airport causing traffic to go around. As we passed they starting banging on the drivers window so hard I though it might break. He revved the engine and cut off the guy behind us.

When the drive in San Fran is worse that the drive in Lagos, you know you’ve got a problem😂

SFO is a great layover and I will die on this hill. If you don’t like the hundreds of excellent restaurants within 8 blocks of the hotel you can get an Uber up to Marin County and go on any number of awesome hikes. Rent a bike and ride across the GGB then take the ferry back from Sausalito. Go check out The Presidio. Walk up to Chinatown. Go to a Giants game. Only drawback is that everything is a little more expensive and it’s a longish drive to the Westin.

Are there homeless people? Yes. Welcome to America. But the way people talk about SF you’d think you couldn’t walk outside the hotel without stepping on poo and having your Rolex and new balances stolen at knifepoint by gangs of methed up degenerates.
100% agree about SFO. I used to hate it, now I love it. I have learned not to go in that area SW of the hotel, but other than that, the crazies to normal ratio is pretty diluted with how many people are always out and about.

SFO isn't bad at all. Right next to Chinatown which is clean and no homeless people. The bakeries are amazing and you can still find old achool buns both sweet and salty for $1.50. That's less than half of what you'd pay at the chain stores like 85 Degrees, Sweet Hut, or Paris Baguette. Or head 5 minutes down the street to 54 Mint for some amazing Italian food.

Agree with the Downtown LA hotel, it needs to go. I used to live in LA and even locals avoid that area. Redondo is amazing, Hollywood one is mid at best but is close to Pizzeria da Michele which is probably the best Neapolitan pizza you'll find in the US.

I actually love the Brickell hotel and don't mind FLL. Lots of places to eat on Las Olas or grab a quick bite at the Top Hat Deli if you're in a rush. Pretty short walk to the riverwalk as well. It helps that my main activity on layovers is eating and going for walks. Or I've just gotten used to it as a junior ER pilot.

Speaking of which, how about that AE? If you're junior to me the ER is amazing and has the best variety in the system. If you're senior to me it sucks, all it does is Florida shuttle and former Maddog trips. 4 legs a day and 200 screaming kids to see the mouse in MCO

We used to stay on the beach in MIA at the "luxurious" Sherry Frontenac which was truly a crew hotel with crews from all over the world there. Still miss the soda machine with beers in it but did not miss the ride to/from MIA.

FLL was the Yankee Clipper on the beach which was a great location but had a lobby that smelled like mothballs for some strange reason. Location did make for a short walk to the Elbo Room though. 😁

I believe we had pilots submitting FCR’s for noise complaints in FLL when we were on the beach.

Kahanamoku beach is about the same distance as Foodland in the mall if you just walk the other direction. Yes the rooms are mediocre, but 15 minutes of walking completely changes the surroundings.
