Late to the party. I tried doing Hilton points for a year with the Amex Surpass. Then I tried Marriott with the Amex Bonvoy Brilliant. Both turned into a frustrating experience when going on vacation to the point where I've abandoned points and joined the cash back team. It was too hard to get the supposed value of the points (.5 and .84 respectively). We do have a gaggle of kids so rooms for six usually ended being astronomical, especially with Hilton. We now have a Venture X for 2 percent back and IMHO the best overall card is from Redstone FCU. Anyone can join. 5% restaurants and gas, 3% groceries, Target and Walmart; 3% wholesale, streaming and utilities. 1.5% on everything else.

I liked the venture X. I had it for the bonus, but I already had two travel cards at the time (CSR and Costco). So I got the bonuses and got rid of it after a year

Not sure it's the 'best credit card' but I haven't seen this deal before. SWA is offering a Companion Pass as a welcome reward. It's good through next Feb. The least expensive annual fee is $69 too.

The Amex Gold you get 4 points in groceries and dining out - if you redeem for cash they are worth $60 per 10,000 points - so that’s 2.4% cash back. 3 points back on flights so that’s 1.8% cash back
Platinum card is 5x points on hotel booked through their hotel collections, so that’s 3% cash back if you redeem for cash.

Looking to make a change as well. Getting rid of my Hilton Honors Amex. Anyone know if it's possible to buy a confirmed for less Delta ticket and use either Chase Sapphire or Amex Platinum points for a confirmed upgrade?

Chase Sappire Reserve is best if you go to airports with restaurant credit (Atl B gates, SFO, DEN)
I am done with Amex with exception to my bonvoy cards to keep status with Marriott. The whole no more non rev in the skyclub thing and no non rev tickets in centurion has made the Amex cards outside of Marriott just about useless to me. If they ever change the embargo or want to offer skyclub membership to employees for a fee it will be re-evaluated then. Amex also doesn’t do priority pass restaurants. So I have a hard time justifying the fee.
Visa is surpassing Amex in most parts of the world anyways. Many places in Europe and Latin America are dropping Amex as of recently and going to Visa
