lol, they've never been required to go to a specfic carrier. typcial endeavor pilot misinformation about propel. and they don't "send" them there. regionals are an option.

Currently a regional FO based in ORD and absolutely love living in Chicago. However, I am a member of the propel program so I am extremely fortunate to have a qualified job offer with DL…would I be better off applying to UA or AA so I can stay based in Chicago, or is DL a good enough company to justify a commute? It sounds like you guys get tons of time off compared to what I’m getting now, and if I had to get a hotel in MSP or DTW every now and then it doesn’t seem like that would really break the bank. I have family in Ohio within driving distance to DTW who I could stay with if needed. Then again, I know my ability to pick up premium would be restricted…and yes I know commuting would definitely be a step down compared to living in base. But I absolutely love DL as a company and would hate to abandon the propel program only to regret it down the road. Should I give the commute a shot and if it sucks that bad then apply to UA or AA? Or should I just send out my apps now? Thanks for your input.
Do you want to make your whole life in Chicago? In my case it was a no. So I commute out of FL for Delta.
As much as I loved living there in my 20s, I don’t miss it. It’s a good memory of my life and I’m happy where I am.
Commuting is a choice, living in base is also a choice. It just depends how much you can tolerate. Also, how long before you get a call from DL for a class?

I lived in Ord while I was in a regional. It’s a good city to live while you’re young. The question is….

Currently looking like another 1.5-2 years before I get a DL class according to what my mentor has been telling me...might also be a case to apply for AA/UA. I know guys getting hired there with about the same amount of SIC time I have now. 2 years of mainline seniority sounds significant but not sure if that's worth basing such a huge career choice on. Not hurting for money or anything now with the new regional pay rates and I enjoy living in base so there's really no big rush to leave.

Don't have an offer from either...haven't sent any apps out yet. I feel like it would be next to impossible to get an interview with Delta if I left the propel program, so I'm hesitant to apply elsewhere without at least seeing if commuting is feasible or not. There's loads of flights between ORD/MDW and DTW/MSP/ATL so it doesn't seem like the worst commute in the world, but honestly I'm sure it sucks compared to living in base.

. Um I think it was originally a Delta connection carrier or WO Endeavor but it may have changed. Who knows , it's all BS anyway that shouldn't be allowed by ALPA . At least old school ALPA Would have a set of kahunas that wouldn't allow it

Always work for the Big-3 / Legacy in your hometown.
Period the end.
In your case, you have AA and UA.
in light of all the "catch up" pay stuff and matching rates etc, any differences amongst Big-3 / Legacy will be overweighed by driving to work

But, if you decide DL is the end goal for whatever reason, going through UA/AA/WN is a fantastic resume boost!
Dont hold out!! The best thing I did for my "forever home" legacy career path was saying "eff it" and going to a different legacy. And, even if my forever home hadn't called... commuting to a legacy was very gentlemanly compared to other flying jobs.
