there was a poster here outlining that they used it the following way. Awarded CA on the 717, during training saw they could hold 320 CA on the mock AE, called and had their award for 717 undone then immediately bid for 320A. They had a 2 year FO seat lock for abandoning 717A training so their 320A seat lock was 4 years but since they had never been a CA still after exiting 717 training they were still eligible to break their FO seat lock for 320 A

Hmm, interesting. I’m more curious about what would happen in the following scenario: an FO is awarded 717A, then decides not to go through with the training, so the seat lock gets reinstated. Works as an FO for six months then decides to bid 717A again.
Would that even be allowed? And if so, would the new seat lock restart as another 3.5 years on the 717?

the company can do what they want if it works for them (as well as the pilot).

Depends, you could use your first time captain upgrade to break the lock, or if a new base opens up.

When Delta is finally convinced they owe you money, often several months after flying and at least 2 attempts to deny you money. Or a year later in the case of PBs and at about half the value.
