There are no plans to retire any 330's. The oldest are middle-aged in Delta years.

The second part isn’t really true. The oldest are 22 years old and only a few years younger than our newer 767s. DL seems to fly WBs about 30 years (763s went longer because we sold a good chunk of our newer 763s in 2020 then the post COVID spool up was not something anyone in management planned on). considering the WB options rip was talking about would most likely be for the mid 2030s, that seems about right to start replacing our older 330 classics.

Just remember to bid what you want for when the music stops.

I don’t know if this energy crisis will cause the music to stop, but it certainly can.

Don’t be that person who could have held something, then suddenly is stuck in their current position until the music restarts.

Also don't be that person stuck junior in a new position because you thought the music would keep playing.

Energy "crisis" this isn't the '73-'74 Arab oil embargo dude. Relax.

I disagree. Iahflyr’s advice is sound. None of us have a crystal ball. Nothing wrong with planning for the worst. One can agree current economic metrics definitely warrant mid and long term plans.

When is that ever not the case?

Yes but sometimes it’s a litter worse. I’ll leave it at that.

Excellent point but it also depends on what fleet you are talking about. WB A will always have some movement due to mandatory retirements. Some other fleets could slow to a trickle with fewer age 65 retirements to keep the movement going. Obviously this just covers a slowdown and there is no real limit on the havoc a black swan event could cause.

They will surely retire some 330ceo’s into the mid-2030’s as the 787 fleet grows. For every 330ceo held onto as new WB’s come in, that’s a net increase from the ~220 number I mentioned earlier. All for the better.

Best case is Delta makes another AB WB order for growth where options are exercised and additional options added. I doubt x20 35K’s is all we will see when it’s said and done.
