The UNA pilot that was making metal bag tags with your name and plane that said "Fly Delta Jets" got a cease and desist from Legal, as did the college age dependents of active employees that made a Travelnet app where you could list with 1-2 taps on the smartphone as well as a "what are my chances" function years before we got it on legacy travelnet....IIRC the app was free so they made zero money....DL shut it down!

the first one used a DL trademark IIRC. And the second actively interfaced with DL websites to display loads. I absolutely agree they should not be doing this selectively, but I can see why those two got the ire of DL legal and not WS.

Let me also add that I'm not meaning to come across as coming off the top rope on anyone. If anyone feels like I have, I apologize. I just have to give credit where it's due to Curly. He has a great product, which goes way way beyond what you can find elsewhere, and which he is continually improving. It takes a not-small amount of work. And his small fee probably barely covers his real costs of hosting the website. He's not getting rich off it (not that I'd fault him if he were). He gives a lot of groups free access, like NH's, Mil leave, disability, etc, which I have to respect.

I've never hosted a website, so I don't know how much it costs.....could be $20/month.....could be $20K.....I have no idea.

But....Curly has 3 subscriptions....let's use the middle one (12 months for $24) so $2 per month.

If only 10% of the 17K pilots on the list subscript, that approx $3500 a month.

10% is probably way low....25% would generate $8.5K a month......33% would generate little over $11K per month.

I just can't imagine that a website that is basically displaying Excel Sheets and some graphs/ pie charts is costing anywhere close to 5 digits per month, so I assume Curly is making just a bit more than beer money.

The tags say "Fly Delta Jets"....to be best of my google-fu, a trademark applications for that phrase was filed, but abandoned back in 2016.

I think the issue was the aircraft silhouettes had a widget on the tail

Yeah, and we have at least a dozen "influencers" out there posing in their Delta uniforms and showing pics of Delta jets in their musings. They are getting clicks, likes and subscribes and they are getting money from that...

So why do they get to continue yet a dude making plane tags did not?

it kind of boggles my mind that they put out a revised as em policy, and then seem to completely ignore it, and at least several higher profile influencers.🤷‍♂️

Keep in mind new hires are free for a period of time. Mil leave and people on disability are free. If you are under 1000 seniority or over age 63….free. So I doubt he is making much money. But I think it’s a great website.

He's not doing this out of the "goodness of his heart"

I want to see the receipts. Come on Curly, show us the receipts. How much do you make off your product? If the balance sheet is a push, then I'll shut my mouth and never speak about it again.

When you buy a house from a Delta pilot or use one to to refinance your house or use one with a side hustle you contract with, do you expect them to do it pro bono or take a loss or provide a substantial discount?

He provides a service name find very useful. If you don't like it, don't pay for it

I think the difference is in those examples you listed the Delta pilots aren't using any proprietary access to Delta information in order to run their side hustle. Honestly people shouldn't be mad at Curly for doing what he does with the access he's been given. The anger should be directed at the company for their hypocrisy when it comes to greatly restricting access for most everyone else but him.

And I say this as a paid subscriber to his website.
