i feel for the schedulers. When i first started, average schedulers had at least 10-15 yrs experience, overall very knowledgeable and professional. Fast track post covid, we are unable to retain any talent across the company, and the whole operation suffers. Again, it starts from the top. The middle managers can’t lift a finger without their boss say so. Until we have some competent leaders willing to take the first step to fixing labor relationship, it will be hard to steer this ship straight

Yes, OOBWS are always proffers, so you can input one 'blanket' for the month just like a GS.
For in base, the key is to remember that you need to be inside the trip coverage sequence for a WS for it to be a proffer. So, since today is Tuesday, after the 0700 PCS run is complete, you can safely input WS for trips starting Thursday. (Or, you can also input them anytime after the 2200 PCS run the night before so long as you do NOT say yes to the "award on 0700 PCS run" drop down).
You need to input a different slip for each length trip. As a technique, I input the 1-day WS in slot 11, and the 2-day WS in slot 12 for ease of tracking. That way I can still put in a specific WS in front of the 'proffer' slips. Also, for ease of input, put the start date as the first day of the bid period, then you never need to update that field - just change the 'end' date.
For example, in slot 11, today put in a WS which is from "2 Mar-19 Mar", limited to calendar day of trip to "01". Add any other qualifiers like "volunteer for verification flight" to limit/capture all possibilities. Then tomorrow, just go in and change the "19" to a "20". For the 2-day WS, today input "02 Mar - 20 Mar", limited to calendar day of trip to "02". And so on.
Hope that helps. May the odds be in your favor.

It really doesn't matter if you put it in at 2359 Sunday or 0600 Monday, they don't start manual trip coverage for Wednesday until 0800 Monday morning - so it's just a matter of convenience for when you enter it, you aren't missing out on anything until manual trip coverage 'starts'. Just remember to make sure that dropdown for "Award on 0700 PCS run" says NO (which is the default, but I always double check it...).

If you try to modify a slip (among other actions), and PCS is running, you will get an error banner.

I think his point is more what if he puts in a slip at 2230 but the 2200 run hasn’t occurred yet. In that case he’d be hosed. I believe you can pull up the reserve grid and that will have a time stamp of the last time it was updated, which I more happens when the PCS run takes place. How much it updates outside of that I don’t know.

I usually just check the Daily Trip Coverage report and look for some PS, PW, SLV etc. indicating that the PCS run has at least been started. If it’s still running when you try to update your slips it’ll tell you.

This helps thanks! (Hopefully) last line newbie question: What’s the advantage in getting your slips in that early? 23M7 can’t be invoked until 8 hrs prior to report right? So why not just sleep in and update for next day in the afternoon ish? Is it because trip coverage may start way out but still be in coverage by the 8 hr mark and if you don’t have your slip in when it starts you’re SOL?
The only reason for doing it the full 2 days out is if you don't want to miss any proffers you actually might take (i.e. credit surfers).

"As a crew scheduler this week has been hell. But it’s not schedulings fault lmao.
We have no reserve staffing at most of our domiciles around the country right now. Burned through it all to get flights covered with the wx issues, burned through more staffing when crews were timing out due to long delays etc. It’s a mess. Plenty more flights will be canceling today at DTW/MSP and other places due to staffing.
It’s bad everywhere. And we were just finally recovering from the last major irop 5-7 days ago just to get this **** thrown at us. Hopefully weather calms down. It’s by far the worst I’ve seen in 3 years of scheduling"
