Would think that the empty flights have more to do with the economy vs the product.

Even before the economy crashed, the Shuttle loads were very light.

It is a small murmur right now, and nothing more than that, but I assume it is coming from somewhere reliable......

Economy improves and it will not be an issue. We need to recapture our flying so that the over staffing problems do not effect delta pilots as they did in 2001!

How in the HE!! did we go from 150 short post SOC to 150 overstaffed post SOC to 450 overstaffed for the Spring 2010 flying to 2000 pilots FAT SOC??? We haven't cut capacity that much!

It just doesn't make sense!!! You guys are gonna put me in an early grave. :(

Makes sense to me. The easy math is 15% of 12,000 = 1,800

Throw in a few routes being consolidated and NWA's continued outsourcing (Delta's had pretty much run its course already) and there you have it.

I never understood ACL's somewhat rosier predictions, but he had good numbers from solid sources. The part that most do not realize is that Delta Flight Operations management is the cheering squad for Delta Flight Operations. If it was up to them half our flying would not be outsourced. These decisions are made at levels beyond those that directly manage us.

A lot was (and is) said for political consumption. No one is lying, but if management came right out and said 1+1=3 for our shareholders because 1+1=1.5 for our employees the merger would not be going nearly as well as it is. Thus far, this has been the easiest and most painless merger in the history of mergers. The other shoe has yet to drop and the truth is our management has been working very hard to make the staffing reductions VOLUNTARY. They have been more in tune with the needs and morale of their workers than most. IMHO, they have done a VERY good job, but still, it sucks to be a junior pilot with this going on.

If the market turns around it might not drop that hard, but if my forecasters are correct... . I'll put it this way, I'm going back to cash and restocking the bunker.

So how could we be overstaffed by 2000? 15% reduction cant equal 15% less pilots. You've got guys on recall bypass, military leave, long term sick, vacation, recurrent training, new fleet training, etc. I just don't see it.

Easily Johnso29. We overlap easily by 10%. And once we merge, they could get rid of 10% of the airplanes ... and the resulting crews.

Fox News just ran a story on our flight attendants and the red dresses. The word "tomato" was not used but the guy cohost was giggling. The girl cohost is that Julie banderas (sp?) who would look fantastic in that red dress.
