Are the Mod's paid? Or are they partners in the company that owns APC?

If they work for this APC company, they have a financial interest in making this site full of juicy info and debate.

If they are ALPA reps, they will have access to all kinds of juicy info and debate.

How would you put a firewall between these two things, and avoid a -gasp- conflict of interest?

And if you're trying to get elected --and you have a whole army of internet soldiers who can control a popular communications platform-- should you disclose that to the voters? Is that also a conflict?
I'm pretty sure the mods aren't paid, but one of them should be along shortly to verify one way or another. Anyone who's been around this board for more than a few weeks probably has a pretty good idea who the major contributors are. Specifically, the candidate that you are referring to.

I don't take it as a conflict of interest. If you know who he is, then it is simply a forum to "get to know" your candidate a little better so you can make an informed decision. I don't think it would be a bad idea for him to "out" himself on this forum so the few remaining that don't know who's who can vote accordingly. I'll leave that up to him though.

I'm all for more information. The more this candidate posts on this forum, the more we get to see how his thought process works and if we'd like him to be a rep. That has more value than conflict of interest IMO.

Now that is an interesting question, especially since this site isn't governed by labor law and its member protections like the ALPA sites are!

Anyone have that list of eateries and locations of ATL handy?

NVM I found it using search.

Come on slow, you know the mods are volunteers and don't get paid, you've been here long enough.

Are you seriously questioning the integrity of some posters here?

What I want to know is what's with the sudden influx of "new" guys coming in here setting up Gnash clusters?
They all appear to have the same "agenda." Is that a conflict of interest?

Cheers
George

Default C44 Candidates

Someone asked a few posts back about the C44 candidates and opinions one way or the other. I'm not trying to sway anyone's vote, but here's my personal take of the one's I know or have met, and am voting for:

HC: Pretty well aligned with the current MEC administration. He is all about communication (current P2P and DPN committee chairman), and I have seen through his actions that he believes in the bottom-up philosophy. He would make a good rep, with his major uphill battle in this election being the "vote out the establishment" crowd.

AG: The only incumbent running - everyone else is pretty burned out . Great guy. Nice job in this past term, but like HC will face the challenge of getting enough votes from guys that just want to clean house at any cost. I voted for him as FO rep BECAUSE of his current experience as a rep. I see it as a good thing to retain him to give the new LEC the ability to hit the ground running without having to reinvent the wheel.

KO: Has done a lot of work with Government Affairs and knows the political system (both ALPA and Capitol Hill) very well. To me this is an asset, especially from an FO rep, as he is very tuned into how the real world works. I will refrain from slamming any of the candidates I don't know, but KO's history and platform lead me to believe that he will be more grounded in reality when it comes time to make a tough decision.

It's very easy to talk about the grand changes that one intends to make. Unfortunately, that tends to convey to me a sense that a candidate doesn't fully understand the arena in which he will be operating. Change happens slowly over time. The deck (RLA, A4A, etc) is heavily stacked against us, and while I want a rep that will go out and fight for us, I also want one that sets realistic/achievable goals and then reaches them.

Again, this wasn't meant to campaign on behalf of anyone; simply my personal reasons for casting my vote the way I did.

I do encourage everyone to take a few minutes to read the candidates position papers and vote. All the guys running are well-intentioned and I really don't think we can lose, no matter which ones are elected.

GameDay's on, I'm out

Slow,

Honest question here, but do you ever get tired of grandstanding for ALPA?

Personally, I find ACL, Johnso, and 80 some of the most informational posters on this thread. Lately, the guys constantly talking up ALPA seem to be the ones who look to provoke and patronize.

In my next life I'm coming back as a professional golfer. Play a game and make tons of money. Make tons of money and, well...enjoy some perks you otherwise wouldn't have been afforded.

The guy asked a legitimate question and suddenly the mods go silent even when they're logged on.

80 signed a DPA card. ACL posted on DPA BBQ day "it's a great day for a BBQ", then after the DPA event was over edited his post to say "at home." That makes them suspect to me. I agree with you on Johnso.

We don't have an election in NYC for another year so.........

On what criteria do you base your votes for LEC rep?
What are the issues that seem to be most pressing for ATL pilots?

I hope lots guys get involved and cast a thoughtful and informed vote.... LEC elections are not usually attended to very well by pilots.

Was Clay fatigued? Perhaps. Distracted? Probably. Sloppy? No. Careless? On that day, when it mattered most, yes... for about two minutes... and people died.

Sorry I am wrong - the fo and not the captain was from gulfstream. The point that I was trying to make was that the last 3 accidents involving fatalites in the regional industry all had pilots from gulfstream. This was not a knock on the captain of the comair flight.
