Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
ACL is in DFW for the weekend.
Something is always afoot, though.
Bar- while you are probably right about the Comair union not really having the power in that situation, the fact is that the Comair MEC didn't post any objection to the treatment of DAL furloughees! In fact, they supported it! That is just as bad as being the ones that actually put forth the policy.

OK -
JC Lawson lacked the power to do much of anything, which is why he tried to leverage the Delta furloughees. It was the only card he had and even then the Comair pilots were too marginalized to even pull that off.
I frankly can't stand JC Lawson. He undercut our (ASA's) rates to try to score some ASA jets while simultaneously sending "we support you" stickers to the ASA pilots while we were deep in pay negotiations. It was a double cross and he's a rascal for pulling such a move.
I don't like Lawson, but he's not responsible, or even capable of being responsible, for the outcome of furloughed Delta pilots.
As for holding Comair pilots responsible for their MEC Chairman, who himself wasn't "responsible" for the failure... well, that's just ridiculous.
I argued in favor of bringing any Delta pilots who were willing to come on board with ASA while they waited out the furlough. To a man they were excellent pilots with great attitudes, which amazes me given that we were taking the flying they had performed only months earlier at mainline. Those guys helped me get on board when Delta started hiring.
The Comair pilots did not get the same opportunity to make the friendships that help anyone's career. That's payback enough. They are going through a world of hurt right now and there are more clouds on the horizon. I wish their line guys and all of ours all the best in this economy.
- Comair is a Delta subsidiary, right?
- Comair management works for Delta management and in many cases IS DELTA MANAGEMENT?
- Why did the Delta MEC need the agreement of Comair's MEC Chairman when in fact, Delta could have unilaterally negotiated with their management for the preferential hiring of Delta pilots?
- Why didn't Bill Burgey simply negotiate an LOA with Delta Management to provide the solution he wanted? (if you say "impossible" then look up the LOA to provide simultaneous employment rights for Delta's bid restricted second officers!)

What goes around, comes around.
Hey,
Ya'll know that this afternoon, the F/A's filed with the N.M.B. for an election.

OK, I am bitting on this bait. First of all I have never been associated with a group that holds grudges as long as Pilots do. Get over it, I can see it now 30 yrs from now when I am sitting as a Ca at age 64, NOT, and looking at my JAFO- Just a F'in Observer, and listening to them **** about how the merger went down in '08. I was at Comair during that time in during the furloughs and Daddy D and during our strike. The hiring of DAL guys was not banned, all the DAL guy had to do is give up his # and say I am a Comair pilot, just like I would have to do if I went to DAL. Also, do not quote me on this but does it not say somewhere in the bowels of the ALPA by-laws that if a pilot goes from one ALPA carrier to another ALPA carrier they must resign their number. Also, when we went on strike, sure the DAL guys would walk with us, even share a strike center with us. However, when you guys walked with us it was all about DAL and you guys wanting a contract. Then when you signed your record deal, we lost all support. I am a Delta North guy plus a former comair guy. I forsee lots of idle time or quiet time in the flight deck. So, those are my cents and I will never talk of them again....

FWIW when NWA was furloughing the NWA MEC negotiated preferential hiring at PCL without the resignation of seniority. It obviously can and has been done.
Nuff said.
