It serves us (DAL pilots) no purpose. It does not enhance your potential advancement, imo it is a well worn path to continued stagnation. Internal fighting will not improve the pay, working conditions, retirement, benefits and job security of the Delta pilots.
It does require more pilots. They will be coming. The contract was signed less then 100 days ago. The first aircraft that you site don't arrive until Aug of 2013. That schedule has not changed a day.
According to the Nov staffing memo the first 717 deliveries will now occur in September 2012. Is there a problem with the AD compliance and SW doing the interior and paint mods?
They expect to add as many as 150 mil leave returnees to the list this winter. 15 are in class now. Probably does you little good since most were 2000-01 hires but its more bodies. They never planned on hiring more then a handful of pilots this year under any circumstances. Next year they will be hiring and it will continue for many years unless there is a world wide collapse.
According to Tim Hennie-Road at a base visit they would only be hiring if the DC9 stayed to 2014, which it now appears it will. Hring due to the DC9 not the 717. This indicates that the 717 is delayed.
You should however keep one thing in mind. They are making record profits only because of severe capacity restraint on the part of marketing. If that breaks down the profits will evaporate.

It always has been the economy, but that was intentionally minimized during the TA sales job. Ironically and sadly what is occurring now is what the TA pundits were concerned about.
Keep up with the talking points.

As did the guys hired in late 91 and 92 after their furlough.
When you're hired at the back end of a wave (over 3000 pilots hired in the south between 1996-2001 in the south) you won't have nearly the same career as the guys hired at the front of it. As pointed out, you could always look at the career stagnation of all those airlines that furloughed over the last 5 years.

I guess what I am saying is that all stagnation is not the same. Hell I have heard 07 hires complaining in NYC that have been on the ER since day one of being hired. This is a group that has never flown a narrowbody aircraft and has seen nothing but pay raises since they walked through the door.

It just occurred to me that with the Regional sector in complete disarray it may be cheaper for DAL to quickly add and remove capacity with the DC-9 fleet than it would to link up with Skywest or Shuttle America for a 5 year deal. If all you need is a couple extra sections from ATL-ORD the DC-9 is really a solid choice.

a) 717's now not showing until Sep 13 (Nov staffing memo)
b) we don't need to hire due to surplus and higher ALV caused by TA (AMS base visit)
c) we are making record profits even in a (overstated for cover) weak economy
d) we have gone from hiring this year, to maybe hiring this year, to hiring next year, to maybe hiring next year, to a small surplus of 320 pilots to a "sizable" surplus to fill surplus MD88 in the hope they bid (or will displace) to short course over to the 717. (ALPA. Flt Ops, Crew Planning)
e) good news is some possible DC9 and 330/747 intentional awards (or maybe no displacements?) to surplussing in anticipation of training constraints and uncertainty of 62-65 retirements (Crew Planning)
The TA was a huge win - just not for the Delta pilots.

Don't disagree. ditto the PCL issue, however it was stated that:
a) 717's now not showing until Sep 13 (Nov staffing memo)
b) we don't need to hire due to surplus and higher ALV caused by TA (AMS base visit)
c) we are making record profits even in a (overstated for cover) weak economy

And the JF "record profits" are a good thing, even if in margin terms they're nowhere close to record, no?
As to the rest, enjoy the 12.84% pay increase January 1, the extra days off, extra vacation pay, etc. I'm sure you would have done better.
