True - and ATL DC9 says, "EQUIPMENT NO LONGER VALID FOR BASE" while a ATL330 says, EQUIPMENT INVALID FOR BASE. Guess that's left over from when DAL flew the DC9.

Can't pick any DAL equipment in NWA bases either (like DTW777). Just trying to make my crystal ball work better.

FWIW, they learned with having the CVG ER in DBMS about a month prior to the bid.

Try DTW755 A or B. I think that's what the 757 is coded as in the NWA system.

Hmmm. I can enter into ICrew a displacement/AE for the following:

DTW: DC9, 320, 330 or 744
MSP: DC9, 320, 330
MEM: DC9, 320

But no 757 (or 767) or 7ER.

I think Delta-N has 757s based in MSP and DTW now. Are they hiding what they are doing with the 757 until the AE is published?

I think they call the DAL-N 757 categories 755. Try that one.

edit: Woops, I see someone beat me to it.

In the latest Delta 411 podcast with David Ward the General Manager Fleet Programs, they say LAX will most likely be the next in line to transition to a combined 7ER category.

You've apparently never flown the 737. When I flew it, not one captain ever touched the switch.

I am so confused with this South philosophy. First, you guys say the captain is the man and can do whatever he wants (within reason). Now he can't touch the beacon. I know how I'll be doing it and I hope I don't hurt any feelings. But, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.... :D

When I flew the 800 up in NYC the Captains called the beacon the beer switch. Whoever did not turn it on first bought the beers. When I came to ATL it was a Captain only switch. Like ACL said, there is no rhyme nor reason to what guys do.

I think all confusion will be gone if (and I heard it is when) they go to brake release for the times.

That is one thing I am going to miss is clearly defined roles(SOPA/SMAC). Its nice to know exactly who does what when. None of this willy nilly, each flight deck is different, no rhyme no reason. That should be what we are trying to get away from. With SOPA/SMAC there is no confusion and no room for the captains ego. Much more civilized. IMHO

99% of the time it does not matter but it's that 1% that drives everyone crazy.

CA usually leave the FO to manage the beer switch. That said, when it's time to get push back, CA usually just call for "pushback/start checklist, and call ramp." And us FO usually would be able to finish that short checklist and get the beacon running almost in no time. If the CA wants the beacon on before the part in the checklist where the beacon is turned on, they'll just reach over and punch it him/herself. (very rarely)

So you see, you just do what the CA tells you to, and you're sure that the first round of beer is on him!

PS: Now for the maddog bubbas out there, is the beacon a FO switch as well?

I am soooo with you, this new way leaves a lot of room for confusion to seep in. Plus the FO's on the -9 will be comatose by the third leg with the amount of work they now have to do. I advise all my guys/gals to bid out of the seat as soon as they can. 5 legs a day with a huge workload and the 1% would be pretty bad.
