Ron Allen took the help in 88 to 90 (Chairman, CEO, then President)
Robert Priddy left ASA to start Val-u-Jet in 1993, first real operations to speak of were 1994. Val-u-Jet changed its name to AirTran with the acquisition of "AirWays" corp in 1997. They were on the verge of being shut down by the FAA.
SWA was never any competition for Garrett. He had Eastern, under Lorenzo, to contend with. We won.
Leo Mullin went through Delta like Sherman through Atlanta. He burned our fields. We did not lose market to AirTran as much as we lost our own bearings as a Company by trying to outsource our core competency.

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) on Wednesday threatened to push for an antitrust examination of Delta Air Lines, for what he said was a broken promise by the airline to maintain current service levels in Memphis, Tenn.
Cohen was reacting to what he said was a decision by Delta to cancel summer flights between Memphis and Amsterdam, and said it was the latest of a "growing string of broken promises" by the airline.
"I was disappointed to learn last February that Delta planned to scale back the flight to a summer seasonal schedule but took Delta at their word that they would bring back the flight in the summer of 2013," Cohen said. "Now that Delta has eliminated the flight altogether, I am disappointed that Delta has once again broken a promise they made to me and the people of Memphis."
A spokesman for Delta said the decision to cut the service was based on rising fuel costs and low demand for the Memphis-Amsterdam route.
Nonetheless, Cohen said he has asked for a meeting with Delta on this issue, and is also "reaching out" to Attorney General Eric Holder to discuss "the growing evidence that Delta is violating the promises made to the Department when seeking antitrust immunity for their merger."
Delta and Northwest Airlines merged in 2008, immediately after the Justice Department said the merger did not pose any antitrust concerns. The Delta spokesman said the decision to cut direct service to Amsterdam had nothing to do with the merger.
Cohen, who sits on the Antitrust Task Force of the House Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on Aviation of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has been putting pressure on Delta even before the cancellation of the Memphis-Amsterdam flight.
In June, Cohen said ticket prices in Memphis were inflated, and raised the possibility of "monopolistic practices" by the airline. On Wednesday, he reiterated arguments that Delta has said Memphis would not lose jobs or flights, which he said are "two promises that have been broken."

Why would somebody do this? (make sure your antivirus software is up to date before clicking!) It is not a "Delta Air Lines" site. Someone is trying to make an alter ego site using the Delta brand. (and it isn't even Bryan Bedford)

Memphis cries foul, yet there are no airlines waiting in the wings to come in and capture that "super lucrative" market there....
It was a great connecting hub for NW, but with ATL so close by, there's not much reason for connections there.
I still thought CVG would go first, though.

Okay, it seems to me that this part of our scope clause would apply to the Alaska SEA to SLC flights:
3. The DL code will not be placed on AS flight segments to or from a Delta hub.
Exception one: The DL code may be placed on AS flight segments to or from LAX, subject to Section 1 O. 2. Any such flight segments between LAX and an Alaska hub will be included in the calculations in Section 1 O. 3. Exception two.
The rest talks about exceptions on hub to hub flights which these are not because SEA is not a "hub."
The way I read it, it seems pretty clear that Delta cannot place it's code on these flights because SLC is a Delta hub.
