I agree with every Delta pilots concern on being directly hired without an interview. The way I see it, Delta management hires the pilots not DALPA. Delta does not have to ask the union who they can and cannot hire. Once hired DALPA will manage the seniority list. If Delta management wants to change the hiring process they don't have to ask the unions permission. I am not trying to make this confrontational just looking at what I believe can and cannot happen.

Does anyone else see a problem that the PINNACLE MEC was able to negotiate a bridge program with Delta without input from DALPA? I have a problem that another pilot group's MEC binded our management to a contract.
I really hope all future Delta pilots are required to have a bachelor's degree. That would eliminate a huge chunk of the Pinnacle pilots right there. Specifically the Gulfstream crowd.

Wait till cabotage goes away. Is DALPA proactive and have safeguards against this? I predict in 10 years or less this will be the focal point of the pilot group.
While it is true the company can hire whomever it wants and set the conditions for employment, this will certainly have an effect on the overall makeup of the pilot group. I am not happy about it because it does lower standards overall when pilots win such lotteries. I know there will be good pilots that deserve to be here but there are also the likes of the pinnacle FO in line at Starbucks last week in MSP wearing a white long sleeve sweat shirt under his short sleeve pilot shirt. That is no joke! Captain and I were speechless! An FCR followed but I am sure it will go no where.

I couldn't agree with you more about the uniform. Self pride and discipline goes a long way. First impressions are lasting impressions.
Maybe waive the cog tests but make us go through the HR interview. Nobody should be scared to sit down and be themselves and let the company decide if they are a good fit or not.
How have the Compass and Mesaba flows worked out? I knew a lot of the guys that flowed and most of them were great pilots to fly with. They all had great personalities and skills.

What troubles me, if indeed that's what happens, is DAL management directly negotiating with another MEC without a DALPA rep in the room.
It's one thing for Delta management to give guidance to Pinnacle management and have the Pinnacle MEC negotiate with Pinnacle management.
Maybe the fact that this is tied to RJs going away makes it appear less important. Imagine DAL management sitting down with Virgin Management and the Virgin Atlantic MEC without a DALPA rep present. Would that trouble you?
What if DAL promised them a larger share of the transatlantic flying if they agree to concessions?

Commuting on a 50 seat RJ for a 5 day Christmas trip on the shortest day of the year...quite possibly the last day of the world. Is that a bad luck trifecta? Maybe I should have called in sick.
I totally agree. However, for every Gulfstream guy, there's a pilot at Pinnacle that went about it the right way, has a degree, humble about where he's at and only wants a chance to interview at Delta. Please don't lump the entire pilot group with these Gulfstream guys. It's bad enough I have to fly with some of these clowns on a daily basis.

This is what I have heard.... With a quota per class. Well see if it is true.
