Depends on the category. I get hosed in my category. DEC I was either on a trip or SC every day for the whole month for a whopping 73 hrs. Long call is pointless since I never sit it. My QOL has also been going downhill as of late.

The SC assignments are insane also. It makes commuting to reserve impossible for me. I'm anxious for the next AE to come out and hopefully be based at home again.

From my perspective, Reserve is much improved, because I can hold week-ends off, and guys are stepping on each other to WS during the week. And using every trick available to get past max pick-up, which is not much of a trick at all.

So from the perspective of the group... not so great.

We've turned ourselves into a bunch of hoares, and there are plenty of tricks to be turned. I'll sit it out @ 72 hours instead of 70, thank you very much.

Hockey,

I think the QOL of our reserves varies enormously, by not only seniority but also domicile and equipment.

I am fairly senior in category, can sit SC at home, and think the new system is a huge improvement.

What specifically? Are you junior in your category? What % are you on reserve?

I would disagree, but I'm senior on reserve in a fat category. I would agree that it looks like junior reserve guys are flying more often than before. That will even out when we're not so overstaffed (or get into summer flying). Then the seniority on reserve will just allow the senior to decide "which" trips they prefer to fly instead of "nah, I'd rather not go fly."
As a junior reserve guy (ATL88B) I've flown every day of reserve until I maxed out for the last several months. In December, my last 3 days of reserve were off because I was full (past ALV).

Has anyone else heard the furlough word thrown around here recently? I've heard it twice now in the last week.

Frankly, right now, I can't think of a less likely thing to happen.

Just to enlighten the rest of us, what is the scenario used to "logically" bring upon furloughs?

At end of summer, 757's and 320's start getting parked. 717's get delayed while 17 remaining DC-9's start going away. We are already overstaffed as is in the winter months. I personally don't think it will happen, but I have heard the word more than once now in the last couple weeks. Right after the first time I heard it, Ed Bastain made his comment about not anticipating any hiring this year.
