Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Res question
Just wanting to verify how long a duty day can be for a short call. If someone were to go on sc at 1930, if called out early the next morning wouldn't their day have to be done by 1130 the next day?
From Ed above: "We've just finished a significant overhaul. We're putting the new product into our international widebodies. We spent over $1 billion doing that in the last 2 years, and we would have not spent that money if we thought we're going to be starting on a large new widebody order."
Perhaps Ed meant he would be talking to Barry about a narrow body order, since he did say they had invested money in our wide body fleet already (lie flat seats) and said it is a younger fleet than our narrow body fleet?

What I got from the comments is that there is a plan. The plan may not be what some people want to hear (including us). $2B capex for this company is not fleet renewal talk. It is codeshare/ JV talk. Now how much did they just capex on 76 seaters...nice shell game.

There's a lot of open ended swiss cheese there. It must be difficult to talk like that all the time.

The Capex on the 40 CR9's is $1.85B list price and airlines usually pay about 50% of list, so then divide that over 2 years for delivery and that is roughly $462.5M per year of the $2B. So less than 25% of yearly CAPEX targets.
IMHO, it is 100% more than should be spent on Delta painted planes operated without Delta pilots, but until the Company decides to value mainline pilots, flight attendants and mechanics more, it will be up to the pilots alone to keep forcing DCI to get smaller.

They don't do this stuff out of spite. DCI was once 700+, now it's going to 450. And it's not just DCI - look at Song, Delta Express, West Coast Shuttle, Europe point to point, etc. All started and changed during in my time here. They're chasing a buck.
I agree it is up to us to protect our careers. But you've got to do it using real world facts and circumstances if you want to be successful.

I'm a heretic. I don't think the answer has anything to do with how much management "values" us, FAs and mechanics; it's got everything to do with bottom line accounting. In management's accounting DCI costs less and produces "adequate" customer service and revenue, providing a greater differential than can be done with mainline.

As to used widebodies, what about a deal for A330s?
We seem to love those things and I doubt anybody is giving up any 773s any time soon and 744s we've discussed the maybe's around that.

Any 747-400 drivers know what happened to Flt 639 HNL-NRT on 3/3? It returned to HNL and cancelled due to aircraft damage enroute. Just curious what the damage was. Busted windshield maybe?
One more used WB question, what about the UAL 764s?
