Here's an interesting tidbit from the new regs.
I read this as I want to check my schedule as soon as I can so my duty day starts. Or that we will never have to check our schedule and the schedulers will call us. A4A asked whether a requirement in the collective bargaining agreement to check a schedule or calendar, or to acknowledge a trip assignment, is considered duty. Section 117.3 defines duty as ‘‘any task that a flightcrew member performs as required by the certificate holder * * *’’ Thus, if a certificate holder requires that a flightcrew member check a schedule or calendar, or acknowledge a trip assignment, then the flightcrew member’s compliance with that requirement would be considered duty. The collective bargaining agreement has no impact on this analysis, as this agreement simply provides the legal basis for the certificate holder to require a flightcrew member to perform certain actions We had long call and the CBA stated the pilot had to call in between 1400-1600 the day before (not sure of the exact times). Well, the company liked to schedule 6 days of reserve and people started complaining that if we are required to check our schedules that is a "responsibility to the company" and therefore not rest. The POI agreed and 24hrs of rest was then required at some point during the 6 days. Boomer where are you? |

So will all reserves be on de facto short call, without the company having to negotiate it? I think any changes to our contract require "negotiations". You know: Where the company says "we need this"... and ALPA says "okay". Or ALPA says "we want this"... and Delta says "what are you willing to give up for that". |

Seems like I remember this scenario being discussed before: If you voluntarily check it at 3pm the day prior, all is well. If you wait to check it at 2am on your first on call day and you are assigned a morning short call, then you just interupted your required rest. Capt. Hook |
It's Official (well a press release and talking points from the long time silenced guys in network):
Delta Expands in Los Angeles to Compete Against American Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) is adding 17 flights a day in Los Angeles in a bid to win passengers away from competitors who dominate service at the nation’s third- busiest airport. The flights will boost the number of seats in Los Angeles by more than 10 percent, and include new service to eight destinations such as Seattle, New Orleans and Nashville, Tennessee, said Bob Cortelyou, senior vice president of network planning at the Atlanta-based carrier... Something sounds engineered about that...I guess it's easy when you're Denny Crane. Are there any open seats, I'm always up for happy hour?

Would this also apply to Delta's requirement to check your schedule by 2am on your first on call day?

Hook My current DCI carrier insists on calling you the day before a set of reserve days to assign you a reserve period (all short call). It isn't written anywhere that you HAVE to answer and depending on who you talk to what your responsibility on day 1 of reserve isn't really clear if you haven't acknowledged your reserve window. I've asked and no one seems to give or a a second though. Luckily it never was an issue for me, yet. It was specifically in the FOM and CBA at Comair that you had to call in or check your schedule the day before reserve stint. So it seemed like a pretty easy arguement that you had a responsibility to the company. I have no idea who makes the decision. (POI, FSDO, etc) |

Cheers George Might it be that they were waiting for the result of the AA/US merger, saw were weren't getting anything out of it, and decided to grow a little? I hope this isn't temporary. Maybe this is just the beginning. I sure hope so. :D |
