To a point, I think they fly less than we do, it's just their credit with their trip pay is through the roof. Or at least that's how I understand it. So I don't think they fly much more than 80-85 hours but get paid a relative fortune to do it.

Speaking of SWA does anyone know if a SWA 737 landed in ATL after being told to go around? Supposedly a FL jet was told to expedite from the runway and they exercised their option to do just the option. Tower told the 737 to go around and they said "we got it" and landed? And I believe ATL ATC waited until SWA cleared to runway to reenact a scene from Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket.

I was wondering if it was just an urban legend.

The company intended to hire with classes running this summer. However, once marketing released the flying it was evident that the schedule could not be met without instructors flying the line. Classes this fall.

Actually the winner is anyone in the Airbus 320 if GSs are your goal. Why do they under staff that thing so much?

Although let be I am not fond of any system other than the bow wave. Or as Sailingfun once mentioned, how about a compromise of ALV bow wave.

I'm not taking sides in this argument but I will add some basic economic facts. The DL pilots share of the financial pie is a finite amount. How the pilots divide our portion is up to us, we can add 20% more pilots but then we have 2000 more pilots so each individual pilots portion will be smaller ( on average ). In a hyper competitive industry productivity is one of the keys to success ( think SW). I wish we could return to the post Deregulation world I was hired into which is pretty much what Timbo suggested but no matter who represents us that will never be. We can still make improvements in all areas of our contract because a consistently profitable company will float all boats.
I will still bet a steak dinner to anybody on here that DL will be hiring first quarter 2014, among all the naysayers on APC any takers ?

Do you lose if we start hire dates in the 4th quarter of 2013? :D

Elvis, I always knew you were smart so I edited my post but if we start hiring in the fall I will honor my original post and treat you to a steak dinner.

16) 1 GS : 2.90 pilots in MSP 320 B
17) 1 GS : 2.96 pilots in ATL 767 B
18) 1 GS : 2.98 pilots in MSP 320 A
19) 1 GS : 3.15 pilots in CVG M88 A

Interesting how the categories with the most GS are the junior narrow bodies.

Almost the ones that you'd hire into. I know we just had an AE that put people into those planes, but I wonder if it was enough.

Just kidding. Hiring couldn't start soon enough for me. I've moved up 600 numbers since 2010, but have been displaced twice.

The captain I'm flying stated that commuting is a choice...I informed him about pilots with families who are stuck with homes that may be under water with respect to their mortgage...he then qualified his statement. I suppose I could have moved three times in three years, moving my wife, four children and 20,000 lbs of household goods each time.

In my opinion, that's not the question if we just keep shrinking. The real question should be: Will we have more total pilots at the end of 2013? Or 2014? Or 2015?...

Has anyone got the name of a good proctologist in MSP? I had an unfortunate, er, episode with my pet iguana last night.

Oh, and I neglected to log myself off in the crew lounge.

I commuted for my first 6 years with DL, displaced numerous times, 1011 S/O to 727 S/O and back and forth plus 1 stint as a DC-8 S/O and training as a DC-9 F/O only to be displaced before being coverted. I then moved to DFW so I wouldn't have to commute and we all know how that worked out. Commuting can be a choice but it can also be a necessity. Hang in there Bro !
