Except for FTB's jetway assignment scenario (gosh, that would suck)...if you don't want to fly an IA, don't answer your phone when you're not contactable. I bet most guys who get IAs are thrilled. Or they wouldn't have answered their phones (or called back to take the trip).

That's exactly how the Greenslip evolved.

In the time before time, there were no Greenslips, only Inverse Assignments, to cover uncovered, understaffed flying. Then some senior guys decided THEY would like to get some extra dough on their off days too, why should Junior guys get assigned, (and the extra dough) when there were senior guys sitting around, willing to fly (for extra dough).

Thus, the Greenslip was born.

Anyone know how many pilots ALK has hired in the past 5 years? 10 years?
Inquiring minds want to know....

Just a few rambling thoughts for the day.

Perhaps Delta Management is already setting up the merger with Alaska. One of the things that scares me is the complete lack of Scope protection Alaska has with their recent TA.

The loophole that could be created is that if this Alaska TA passes with NO Scope language. Shortly thereafter, Alaska management enters into a 10 year capacity purchase agreement with SkyWest (or the flavor of the day) to fly 90 plus seat aircraft or larger since they won't have any scope protections.

Now Delta decides to buy Alaska a few months after those nice 90 plus seat aircraft enter service and the contract is firmed up. The new airline will not be able to just break that contract without consideration. Therefore, Delta management will say hey this wasn't our idea but a contract is a contract and we will need some type relief...

That's how I would do it if I was in management while disguising it as Alaska's fault.

Dude, NO WORRIES! Nothing a scope enhancement opportunity can't fix.

I have been sitting on this idea for a long time. The DAL pilot group is about (real rough estimate) 800 pilots fewer in 2013 than it was after the 2010 hiring cycle. Essentially we have furloughed 800 pilots over the last three years without actually going through the pain of an actual furlough process. Here are a few points to chew on:

1. Publically it would look terrible if DAL was profiting and furloughing while most other major airlines were making money and hiring.

2. When a company furloughs the union of pilots (properly so) becomes less productive. They don't pick up open time readily and fire away at green slips like we see today.

3. If you agree with #2 then would you agree DAL may actually be ahead by not actually furloughing all of us in these times of such sever over manning? They maintain status quo without rocking the boat. They don't have to retrain hundreds of FO's and publically they save face.

These are crazy thoughts but I thought I might pose a bit different slant at our current situation. Thoughts?

if everyone would take out their green slips and white slips we would have hired months ago probably...but people gotta get that $$$$

I'm making sure the company pays for those GS's. I've gotten some thunder rolling each of the past 3 months, made more, and flown less than most of my counterparts on rsv. :)

as long as we make them pay for it lol...don't use all your benjamins in once place!

I completely agree. I am a NYC guy. There are only a few FOs that live anywhere near EWR/JFK/LGA. They suck up GS's and WS's like mad because they can't afford to live up there without them. I really have no idea why anybody would live there. Then again....I live in CO...doesn't get better than that.:D I was eating lunch with a buddy of mine the other day. He is a UAL guy and works at their Denver training center. The positive energy created from the hundreds of new hires was amazing. I can't even imagine what DAL would be like if we had career advancement to look forward to. Heck....I'd settle for not having to hang myself after every AE.

yep; it honestly looks like they dropped the ball on not hiring and are now scrambling around moving people off the ER etc to cover their butts. seems an awful lot like a regional running on thin staffing. ALPA told me a month or two ago that we were still way overstaffed.

I totally agree. I think this ties into the shrinking and no hiring as well.
