Looks like most airlines are getting hammered. So probably fear that the government is trying to keep ticket prices down by preventing too many seats being taken out of the market. http://www.cnbc.com/id/100959290 |
Why are guys white slipping with 0 res in ATL, NYC, MSP M88.

According to the 44 Reps, that's not what's happening. The flying is currently distributed fairly evenly among reserves. Outside of the summer it's heavily weighted towards a month off with pay for what seemed to be the top 10%. Wait I take that back. In my category it was heavily weighted so that guys got a month off but then they hacked off 20% of the reserve list and then even in a slow month everyone flew constantly. Which is why I'm curious on how a seniority only system would increase staffing. And btw, I'm with everyone who says the buckets and SC need to be coupled. I'm 100% on board with that. But the guys who complain about seniority and reserve will have the same argument about that happening because they'll be stuck sitting on and flying the SCs. They'll be right back to saying we need to honor seniority on SC. Just like trip parking guys want(ed) to find every which way they can fly beyond ALV+15, the "honor seniority" crowd wants (imho only) every which way to have someone fly for them. I still think buckets need to fluctuate via a formula. And I kind of like alfaromeo's idea of rollover RAW score. Say if you're in bucket 3 or higher you get half your score at the beginning of the next month. |

Yes. I too don't like how one fly the front half of the month and then be stuck on SC the rest of the month. I'm not sure how we could incorporate the two, but I'm open to ideas.

XJT had this and it was awesome if you were senior enough to bid a LC only line....but all the rest of the guys were on SC every single day. Not sure we want to go to a system that has SC only lines. Maybe awarding 10% of the reserve category long call only lines while the others stay on the current system would work.

It is ironic, looking at the MSP category, how many folks out-of-base WS. I suppose they live in MSP... but the company has no incentive to build the category back up if they can get NYC pilots to do MSP flying. |
