Must not be enough reserve pilots, thanks!

Go take a look at the 'reserves available/required' list for the month, that will show you what they have vs. what they need.

That number will change, day to day, as guys will white slip open time, which should reduce the number of reserves required. Just because it won't give you the X day move today, doesn't mean it won't work tomorrow, so keep trying.

I think they got the cause and affect backwards in that first article.

Almost hit 14 hours of duty time......Imagine sitting behind a desk for 14 hours then having to drive on the interstate during heavy traffic low vis and and thunderstorms, ...how safe is that.

And some how I feel our day was even worse than that!

"ALPA" does not "sanction" this... The FAA, Congress, and pilots who vote for their reps and agreements sanction it.

Luckily for you ALPA Co-Chaired and had 5 members on the ARC that updated the FT/DT rules and will prevent situations like that starting Jan 4, 2014.

Unfortunately, there are pilots (and groups of pilots) who still don't see the power of a unified voice in DC. The industry side of the ARC had 9 members from 4 different organizations. The labor side had 9 members from 3 organizations....

FFT: Could the reuslts have been better if ALL 9 members on the labor side were working together without duplicated efforts and represented with a unified voice AND the Co-Chairmanship?

Well Shiz, since you asked...

I think it's fair to say ALPA's membership was pretty solidly against raising the retirement age. How did ALPA do on that? (Hint: NOT good.)

It seems, as far as Delta pilot contracts go, ALPA National has an unbroken string of trading mainline jobs to regional carriers for meager (as-in "cost of living only") increases to our hourly rates. (Sub-mediocre performance)

They continue to vehemently deny the blatant conflict of interest at ALPA National.

So, to answer you question: Yes, the results could have been better.

You're completely right. I flew with the Delta guy who was the chairman of the committee. Do you know what the airlines reps wanted? No flight time limit - just a duty day limit like they have in Europe. You thought 9 hours flight time a day was tough - imagine what we could of gotten had there not been strong labor voices in that ARC.

I've been at the beach the last 5 days, haven't shaved in 8 days, and I'm a little bit sunburned. This sucks.
