forgot to bid 09-03-2009 12:08 PM

How is the LAX-SYD thing doing? I saw in the news we cleared a hurrdle with the DOT and now can start sharing reservation codes.

And how about ATL-Lagos with the 777?

ATL-Lagos is doing just fine. LAX-SYD not so much. The same month we entered the market Virgin Blue or something like that also entered the market. Ticket prices are way down. I would honestly be surprised if the route survives into the spring. It will depend on if they find a better market for the aircraft. The two 777 due 1Q are still coming so that may mean they intend to remain in the market.

I still think we should to ATL-SYD! ;)

And we code share with Virgin Blue. I also would not be surprised if we just feed our passengers to them.

I was under the impression the arrangement with Virgin Blue is a JV. I was also under the impression we have a JV agreement, although I don't know if it's an agreement to cover JV's in general, or only the AF-KLM JV in particular. Since I don't think the company can enter into this type of agreement without our approval, I would hope we would at least retain 50% of the flying.

Virgin Blue just got their authority to the US and will be allowed to keep it as long as they stay within the foreign ownership requirements.

I see your point. I really don't have a good solution for that. Do you suggest EV pilots (highest paid in DCI) would need to take pay cuts to make it "fair" for the low seniority DAL pilots? And really, why isn't it fair? We already make more than them. Stapling the lists really doesn't change anything.

Because there is NO guarantee that you made more then them BEFORE they took THEIR paycut to go to DAL. They did it to get their DAL seniority #, so if you want the same then you need to take the paycut too.

I posted Virgin Blue had entered the LAX-SYD market. It was actually Virgin Australia. Not sure the difference between the two however.

I didn't know that Virgin Blue (an Australian carrier) had foreign ownership issues, at least not with respect to Australia. Are you saying the DOT was questionning Blue's Australian citizenship, WRT to flying rights to the US as an Australian carrier?

Or are we getting our virgins confused?
