OK.. help me with the math here. We took a 46% paycut in BK. A 30% pay increase doubles the payrates again... how?? KY public school system here, but that dog don't hunt. And you did say payrates... see your above quote. As far as the RLA... I don't know.. And maybe it's frustration, but we don't have to wait 3 years to have an impasse declared.
The actual paycut was 32.5% followed by a 14% cut. Here's the sample math.
Example C2K rate=$200/hr
LOA46 is C2k-32.5%=$135/hr
LOA50 is LOA46-14%=$116.10/hr
C2K rate + 30% increase = $260/hr
To get from LOA 50 rates to C2K is 123% increase from LOA 50 bankruptcy rates. If memory serves me correctly, since LOA 50 we've had three increases (1/1/07 and 1/1/08 of 1.5% and 1/1/09 of 5%, plus one 6% profit sharing check not included in rates), so the current adjusted rate would be $125.60. That's 37.2% below C2K. There are 4% raises scheduled for 2010/11/12, plus 1% DC increases in each of those years. In most categories these payrates place us above or nearly equal to our pax airline peers for like equipment (LUV excepted). Only 2 passenger airlines ever came close to C2K rates (UAL and AAA), and both had them for a substantially shorter period of time. The "pattern" never caught up at the rest of the pax airlines.
All this was done from memory, so please forgive any errors! I'll correct them if they're pointed out.
I relinquish this discussion. Last word is yours.

Interesting historical perspective. .... And I take it from your post that you feel that we will never see any true restoration within our collective lifetimes. OK.. thanks... I don't know who you are, but I hope you will not be negotiating our next contract. Nothing personal.
If you think you can get to a sustainable C2K plus by using the practices of the past, I hope you will not be the architect of our strategy. Nothing personal!
Oh, and you misrepresent my point of view. I said we have to find a way to extract sustainable value...I'm neither a surrender monkey nor a chest thumper. I'm a realist that is currently undercompensated for the services I provide.
If I remember correctly, you're an architect by training. Can you build a beautiful building without a foundation?

I could say the same about SJS. With out a solid foundation on the bottom (read one that is a hard line, not one that is in the sand that keeps moving) how can we have a contract that is sustainable to long term pressures. We need to shore up that foundation. I agree that getting a 76+ seat jet here at mainline, a public commitment from the union that it will not be outsourced, or the company stating that the jet will come to mainline will go a long way to doing this.
The historical perspective that the bottom keep coming up is one we have to deal with. Push down, or hold the line, either way we need a victory to show where we determine the bottom is. (Read solid foundation on which to build a strong contract in which we can maintain though good times and bad)
