Just kidding, the DTW terminal is nice.
I just can't get over how its full of live birds like JFK...

Cheers

DTW should be Delta's biggest asset going forward. The airport is great for what they need to do. Now if Delta could figure out how to not have every single flight depart at the same time.

We won't need them if we fill theirs up instead.

Ahh it's Friday....I'll knock the negativity off!

I'm sure we'll need more 777 eventually, but I'd doubt that's what this is about.

I was thinking about that too. Time for the monthly banging of the scope drums. A friendly reminder from the Junior Pilot Issues League.

It almost seems like they are targeting AMR. With solidifying LGA, rumblings of trying to get AAs JFK terminal, now talk of poaching a founding oneworld member and the biggest in Asia, what next. I know, I know. Reopening DFW.

Departing flights staggered - thats preposterous! Boy are you a dreamer. I bet you even believe airports other than Atlanta can be profitable.

I am sure that is part of it.
It is a great move.

IMHO, there is a lot more to this. DAL took a chance and it is a huge one. It would allow a ton of flexibility with the flying out of NRT, take a founding partner out of another alliance, shore up the Far East with a great brand.

I think most of JAL's pilots are contract pilots hired though WASINC. Maybe there is an opening with a 50.001%+ stake in this company to own that flying, not just JV it. We shall see.
The pilots hired through WASINC fly JALways, an outsourced subsidiary flying a few of the beach markets. JAL proper is their own pilots. Not sure if JAL and JALways codeshare or cross seat on the same tickets. If so you might have the potential for some of our flying to be outsourced to US pilots on furlough doing overseas contract work.

We need to be very careful about this JV. To me it is more than just a joint venture. We own the majority of their outstanding shares. I hope we can find a way to do a lot of that flying for them.
Here's a Bloomberg report that has a different point of view.

Japan Airlines Denies Report of Delta Capital Tie-Up (Update2)

By Kiyotaka Matsuda and Pavel Alpeyev
Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Japan Airlines Corp. denied a report by public broadcaster NHK that it’s in talks with Delta Air Lines Inc., the world’s largest carrier, on a capital tie- up.
“The report of the tie-up talks is not true,” Japan Airlines spokesman Satoru Tanaka said by telephone. Delta spokesman Kent Landers declined to comment on the reports.
The deal may be valued in tens of billions of yen (hundreds of millions of dollars), the broadcaster reported, without saying where it obtained the information. The Wall Street Journal, which followed the NHK report, said Delta is in talks to buy a stake in Japan Airlines, citing an unnamed person familiar with the situation. The Journal said discussions started a few weeks ago and may take several months to complete.
JAL, as Japan Airlines also is known, joined the Oneworld alliance two years ago, whose other members include AMR Corp.’s American Airlines and British Airways. Delta is a member of the competing SkyTeam partnership that includes Air France-KLM and Korean Air. The alliances allow airlines to put passengers on each other’s planes, increasing sales with fewer costs.
“The reports that the two companies are negotiating a tie- up are probably true,” Ryuhei Maeda, director-general of Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau, said in an interview today. “This is one of the ideas I have strongly recommended to Japan Air.”
Delta already has an Asia hub at the Tokyo Narita International Airport that the airline gained with the purchase of Northwest Airlines last October.
Atlanta-based Delta ended the second quarter with $4.9 billion in cash and cash equivalents, and $500 million available under an untapped line of credit.

Yep, the whole thing needs to be carefully looked at. NO RUBBER STAMP.

If this gets approved we (DAL) will have a majority stake in an airline that we compete with, under a difference alliance.

The Intel was it was another JV. Not a majority stake.
