Those kids don't look underprivileged to me. Or are you talking about the ginger?

I was at a party once and my buddy said this other guy flew for NW. Hmm, so I go over toward him at some point to introduce myself and within a few steps, I get the "Tool" feeling.

"So, what do you do?"
"I am an 'airline pilot' for Northwest"
"Really, you are young, have you been there long?"
"Not too long, got hired three years ago" (NW had not been hiring, BS Flag up)
"What 'routes' do you fly"
"Some Domestic, some international."
"Awesome. What is the type of plane you fly"
"The British Aerospace 146 jet" (now the fun begins)
"Hmm, I am not familiar with that, is that the one with three engines in the back?"
"No, No, it has 4 engines on the wings"
"Oh, the one with the big hump on it, cool. That thing is huge!"
"No, this one is just a 'little smaller' than that".
" Oh, are you the pilot or the other guy"
"We are both pilots, but I am a first officer, but I am just as good as most of the Captains" (Swear to Momma he said this)
"Cool, what International places do you go?"
"Montreal, Winnipeg, Regina"
"So, Canada?"
"Yup,….. What do you do"
"…….I fly A320's for Northwest"

He still hates me.

Sometimes it was just easier at a party ... a regional guy gets tired of...

"I fly for ASA"
"ASA, what's that?"
"Atlantic Southeast Airlines"
"Eastern, I thought they were out of business"
"Yes, I mean no, ASA was part of Delta, but got sold to SkyWest"
"Oh, so you fly for Southwest? They're flying out of Atlanta?"
"No, we still fly for Delta, but we're owned by SkyWest"
"Oh, so Delta? Why do you drive such a crappy car then?"

... and it does not get better ...

"So last year you were explaining you worked for Southwest, Southeast, or Delta or something, right?"
"You are a Captain, right"
"I got hired at Delta in April"
"I thought you told me ASA was a Delta subsidiary. Didn't you just transfer? So Wow, you are a Delta Captain?"
"No, I am a First Officer"
"So you can't fly anymore? That sucks"
"That car of yours is getting to be a classic ... maybe you should keep it ...."

Moral of the story, we should stop outsourcing.

Those are stealthy. The 320ER mostly only flies at night. It is hard to catch one during the day. They look like this.

I commuted for a bit after I got hired, and to save on parking (this was pre-merger), my gf at the time (now wife) would drop me off and pick me up at DTW.

Well, she needed to stop by Meijer on the way home, it was cold as crap, so I kept on the double breasted sub commander jacket for the shopping spree (no hat, I'm not that much of a tool). I'd strolled around in my 9E uniform a few times before on the way home, so I figured no big deal, nobody cares nor ever mentioned it. I'm going home from work and that's my suit.

I kid you not, some retired Navy guy stood to attention and saluted me, then started telling me about his ship and asking me about my command.

Never again....
He was probably being sympathetic to you for somehow making O-5 and earning your wings but being such a slacker you didn't get a single ribbon.

Ha! Agreed on that point BTW, but the TOTD in question wasn't just lubing the gears at a party, he was very clearly trying to buff up his street cred and impress people. His "version" didn't save any more time than the other path you mentioned. All he had to have said was "I fly the little puddle jumper jets that NWA outsources to the smaller regional airlines". They all would have gotten it immediately, but he wanted more props than that so he buffed it up considerably and deliberately. And got called out on it big time, which sounds awesome!

Still though not quite as d baggy as regional pilots intentionally wearing their epaulets backwards to show their esprit de corps for flying "the 9" crj900.

swap with pot question. Reserve avail/req is 20 and 20 on the day I want to drop. If they won't allow it, would a PD work and turn around and pick up a trip on the days I have off earlier in the month?
