When the company says no backfill does that mean they will leave vacated positions unfilled?
Every pilot who moves position on an AE creates a vacancy. That vacancy will either be filled or not based on how many numbers the company wants in that category/seat after this AE. That's why, if category numbers are remaining constant, pilots get awarded positions that were not posted as vacancies on the AE posting...i.e. a NYC 7ER F/O takes one of the ATL 717A positions, someone else, say a M88 FO, gets awarded NYC 7ER FO even though the AE showed no NYC7ER FO vacancies. If they wanted the NYC7ERFO category to shrink by 1 position they wouldn't "backfill" that guys slot and the M88 FO would not get that award.

Keep in mind also that the numbers they talk about in the AE posting are subject to change by the time they actually make awards.

Currently 1493 7ER capt - 25% = 373 displacements
Currently 1791 7ER F/O - 25% = 447 displacements

YIKES

That is a lot of people bidding and displacing to lower paying jobs.

And yes we will have the 330 coming on property in 2015 but they will barely offset the the above reduction.
And I'm gonna say it again... Ain't it great that bigger has to pay more?

Boy crews? I thought they were flown by tough-as-nails old timers...

What is the normal high/shoulder month percentage reduction? We staff for the summers not the winter. More relevant would be summer 14 vs projected summer 15 block hours.

The official Airbus A330/A340 to A380 "transition" course is only 12 days, 4 of which is systems, which of course we would do at home.

So I can't see an A330 to A350 course being any longer, probably shorter.

Here's the A350 cockpit... different than the 330 for sure..

The MD-80 was so awesomeness that the tail couldn't keep up on takeoff.

But there is MEL relief for that and the plane got there on time.

By the way, who invented this slippery death trap?

That's the F-4U Corsair. I could tell from the paint job.
