The chairman's letter was a strongly worded, stern lecture.
Unfortunately, his reprimand was directed at his own constituents (the Delta pilot group), and towards the company.
And it did nothing to acknowledge or correct the reasons we have a divided pilot group in the first place. Ordering those disaffected folks to get back on board without doing anything to address or validate their concerns indicates to me he is completely out of touch (despite all the "listening" he has done).
Oh...and what about those 117 negotiations?

I believe at Federal Circle (on the Airtrain) there is a shuttle bus labeled "Cargo Areas" but I don't know if it goes to UPS. The best bet is when you make a jumpseat listing with UPS ask them for the local number of the airport ops people - then call them, they should know.

Yes. Take the air train to Federal Circle. Walk out and you will see a few buses hanging out near the traffic circle where Hotel Shuttles let out. Go over and ask the driver if he goes to UPS. In fact, you could prob walk to UPS from there as I think it is around the corner. Not positive though. Federal Circle is right in the heart of the cargo facilities so you won't be far.

Because he wants a "unified" group so that he can get what the everybody wants....."the best damn contract."
Because with have the pilot group with half pulling away and not all pushing towards this goal? As a result, we have an issue of getting the result that those pulling away are the most vocal and critical to ALPA about?

You made my point. I think it's less than half myself, but it is a significant number.
The chairman simply must address the issues that have driven half (your number) of the pilot group away...and not unctuously demand that those folks get back on board with business as usual.

2 Port Authority buses at Federal Circle Station. 1 says service road, the other cargo area. The cargo area bus is usually parked in front of the service road one..drivers are helpful and the bus is free. Usually run every 20 minutes, but think it's every 30 during the night.

If you haven't done so yet, please join the call to action. I'm definitely no dyed in the wool ALPA is the second coming kind of guy, but they have set up the Call to Action to make it very simple and quick. Here's the link: http://www.alpa.org/ALPADeptInfoPage...4/Default.aspx
And here's the reply I received from my rep:
Dear GunshipGuy,
Thank you for contacting my office regarding a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) preclearance facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport. I appreciate having the opportunity to learn about your views on issues of importance to Northwest Florida and our Nation.
As you may know, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) currently operates a total of fifteen preclearance facilities around the world in order to facilitate travel amongst U.S. citizens, as well as individuals from most other countries who are traveling to the U.S. While these facilities are instrumental to increasing homeland security in an environment where terrorism exists, it is important to carefully weigh both the security and economic risks with establishing a preclearance facility.
You will be pleased to learn that H.R. 2217, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2014, which passed the House on June 6, 2013, included an amendment that would prohibit the use of funds for CBP preclearance operations at Abu Dhabi International Airport. While H.R. 2217 died in the Senate, Title II of Division F in H.R. 3547, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014, which was signed into law on January 17, 2014, included specific language based on the House amendment in regards to the CBP Commissioner's authority to enter into partnerships with private sector and government entities at ports of entry for certain services. The law prohibits the use of funding "to enter into new preclearance agreements or begin to provide U.S. Customs and Border Protection services outside of the United States."
Again, thank you for contacting me. I will continue to keep your thoughts and concerns in mind regarding future legislative action on this important issue.
If you would like to receive further information on issues of importance to you and to Northwest Florida, please log on to my website at US Congressman Jeff Miller of Florida's 1st District. As always, please feel free to contact my office if you have any further concerns.
Sincerely,
Jeff Miller
Member of Congress
