I talked to a Compass FO on the hotel van a couple weeks ago and he was telling me about his Vancouver and Calgary layovers. He seemed pretty jealous when I told him about my Akron, OH and Jackson, MS stays.

The 717 is the right size, but what have been your observations on fuel burn (assuming you have DC-9 experience) ?
The E175 is 4 generations newer than the 717's type. The long thin routes are going to go there first.
For the record, I voted no and I fought to "capture" rather than exclude the E175's type (aka the Compass divestiture).
I like the jet, but it is built for more cycles than a washing machine at a house with 8 kids.

Call your reps and tell them you want them to take advantage of any opportunities to recapture that flying afforded by the pilot shortage. Yeah, they're smaller and lower paying than our present narrow bodies, but come with a really nice mix of flying with cool layovers, a really nice plane, and likely accelerated seniority (USAir has 2 yr CAs flying them!). We used to do that flying, lost it in BK, and have a rare shot at recapturing it in the next few years. Let's make sure we're ready to take advantage!

Compass is still hiring if you really want that AUS-LAX routes...and LAX-SEA, LAX-SAN, LAX-SFO, LAX-PDX...etc...
Hate to say this (I really do) but it makes sense. You've got a new jet with a new wing and cycle limited fuselage flying against a design from the 1950's with a fuselage that don't care about cycles (100,000+)

We should really try to buy a life limited low cycle jet and put it at mainline.
