Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Alan,
If I can do what I described above, I've got enough payback days to drop 2 months and get 84+ hours by dropping trips. Then I could either take the summer off or green slip for 2 months straight. Otherwise, I can at least do it for one month.

I'm ready to hit the road, so I can escape all the pollen in Atlanta. That stuff kills me!
I agree. There should not be any pilots doing anything out of the ordinary because of fear of reprisal. But, it seemed that if a reserve pilot acknowledged what was on his schedule in the normal course of business, that he was somehow a sellout. Ie. fly the contract.
I think Ferd said he always checks his schedule. If he keeps doing that, it's not out fear, it his habit.
My question is how is he selling out if that what he normally did?

"As a result, under FAR 117 and the current PWA there may be instances where a long call reserve has as little as two hours from first attempted contact to acknowledge an assigned rotation or conversion to short call. We hope these instances are rare and proactive measures by Crew Scheduling should reduce – but inevitably will not eliminate – the chance of such occurrences."
I want more than a "hope these instances are rare". If they can happen at all then that means you have to always be ready to acknowledge within two hours. You don't know when that "rare instance" might happen do you? I'd be willing to bet that over time they would become more and more common.
I've got a long time left at Delta and I don't want to be tied to a two hour lease when on reserve. I do wish DALPA was being tougher on this. I need to call my rep for an update.
I believe that checking your schedule on the last X-day is also part of the contract, and WSC, yet I think we all agree that 117 nullifies any requirement to check our schedule when we're off. I'm totally guessing here, but I think we'd be able to make that case very easily.
On the flip side, could the company prevail in saying our right to acknowledge 3 hours prior is now voided by 117?

FYWIW, this is the way it worked for me the last time I had PB days to burn.
In all fairness, I've never done it, I was parroting what I thought the professor told me. I have seen him drop and pick up the same trip on the same day.
I defer to Alan's superior contract prowess, but do not think how he explained it is how the professor explained it as far as the limitation goes.
Okay fellas, I am in the process of emailing the Dalpa scheduling committee. It may take a couple days to find out, I'll let you know.

Edit: Email message sent to Dalpa.

Next month I have two 4 day trips back to back, I reckon its legal but can't find it anywhere in all our 117 literature.
My question is what is the max flight time in a 7 day period, or is that totally out the window now with 117. The only thing I can find are flight time limitations per day based on augmented or not and what time you started.
The way the trips are now I am blocked for 22:41 on the first 4 day then 10:47 for the first 2 days of the next 4 day, therefore 33:28 in a 6 day period.
Legit?
Thx
