Sorry you were interrupted ... please continue as you were saying about our strategy in the Pacific and how much flying will be done by Delta pilots.

Hearing MD10 and MD-11
30 years after the original design is a sweet spot for working out the post-certification post production probelems via line test flying and re-engineering via emergency airworthiness directives and service difficulty reports on Douglas aircraft.
Besides, there are plenty of spare parts and the hydraulics that work so poorly on the MD88 are DC-10/MD-11 parts to begin with, so we have instant fleet commonality.
In related news, the Trainer PA facility is being re rigged to produce hydraulic fluid.

If that doesn't pan out then this might be a good idea. What could go wrong?

Hey, wait a minute ... I think I know where this is going and I'm to fat to fit in the vertical stab.
You might start about 5 pages back if you want the context. The discussion centers on the veracity of claims that C2012 added ~400M per year in value to pilots. I've said that number is to date unproved because neither the company nor the union has shown the math on how that was derived. Others argue that the number had to be accurate because our pilot board member would have cried foul if the company tried to give misleading costing numbers to the union. That's the cliffs version of why we're discussing this.

I have had this discussion with multiple ppl, and yes, there are items that may require him by law to not divulge. It goes with the responsibilities any person has when they sit on board, public or otherwise. It also effects those that live with that person, and I have been a party to both.
That said, our pilot director knows the responsibilities of his job to the MEC and to the Board. I believe his fulfilling his job to both parties without compromising his service to the pilots.

We're slowly de-hubbing NRT in favor of North America to Asia point to point.
NRT/HND still highest pax yields with China being the lowest.
De-hubbing strategy will require much smaller aircraft than the 744, thus not renewing their leases.
No mention of the 777-300 replacing the 744 as that aircraft is also too big for the strategy.
744 is profitable airframe, but is forecast not to be after leases expire due to higher projected maintenance costs.
He "said" that Delta's strategy is to use Delta for the strategy as opposed to JV partners. When I pressed him, he revised that Delta will ensure Delta gets 50% of the growth compared to JV partners. The discussion clearly made him uncomfortable. It did me too, but for different reasons.
Vehemently against the Export Import Bank. Delta will fight for a level international playing field.
Overall, the Pacific has a bright future at Delta due to the forecast continued population and manufacturing growth in Asia.
I'm sure there was more, but I didn't take notes.

One of my buddies sent this link from MSP the other night.
What a thrill to see a 1946 Ercoupe (identified by the twin vertical stabs) with the extended payload/range mods.
