Yes. I just thought it interesting that he specifically used the term "growth" aircraft. I may have missed the post but I thought the speculation on here was that they could have been replacement planes for the -30s and -40s being pulled.

How many airplanes do they need to "grow" for new 70+ seaters to replace the -30s and -40s?

My guess is that they are probably looking at it and will pull the trigger on it after the bid if it is needed. I think that guys of furlough bypass may eat all of it up FWIW. Going in to late next year and 2011, we will need bodies no doubt. Do not let anyone fool you. When they are saying 100 short, they are being coy.......
Not doubting that's the rumor. I'm just saying that nothing was said or hinted at that made me go, "Hmmm...." Like you, I try to read between the lines and connect the dots.

[quote=upndsky;711148]S Dickson (Senior VP Flight Ops) and G Wilbur (Crew planning) came by the crew room in ATL today. I won't go into what was said since none of it was earth shattering and mirrors what has been said here. There were a few things of note I found interesting, a couple which pertain to things discussed on the last few pages of this thread:

Just to set the record straight - its Barry Wilbur.

Exactly. When they started hiring in 2007, I was told about a dozen times they were "planning" on about 250-300 pilots, ended up being about 700. So if they are saying 100, they really mean more like 300. I still don't understand how being coy is a legal issue. I understand the Wall Street issues of putting out a picture of growth and not meeting the targets, but still don't know how it is a legal issue.

Someone did but I had gone to the back of the room to talk to somone and couldn't hear the answer very well. It sounded like they were non-committal and danced around the question a little, but again, I had a hard time hearing what was said.

Maybe someone else will pipe in.

It is a legal issue because there are a lot of people that were not hired, failed the interview, hired, but not put in a class, in the NWA pool, may go to class after CPS and Mesaba pilots, etc. In a nut shell announcing hiring or thinking of hiring is a legal tightrope. Especially shortly after SOC. As I have been told many times, "The longer the time between the end and start of hiring cycles, the better." It cuts down on the legal issues that may come in to play.

I call that funky math. Growth for less than a year. They are replacing the 9-30's but the 9-30's will not go to retirement for a little bit. I will also add that these jets are not slated to hit the flight line for summer 2010 sked.

That is a purple bullet. A purple tail is a NWA Red Tail and a DAL Blue tail after the merger. Purple.

I know you know, but I explained it anyway for some that still did not get it.
