That's on me then. I misunderstood what you were saying in that post. Sorry for calling you a troll. You have been very well behaved since your vacation.

Maybe not. NWA paid a COLA (flat rate) to pilots in Guam. HNL and ANC had one, too. ALPA even negotiated a pass travel arrangement on Alaska that gave ANC commuters a higher priority than Alaska employees, regardless of where they were traveling, on Alaska.

Those 3 bases were still "junior" to LAX, SEA, and MSP.

Agreed. I'm not asking for COLA differentials. I knew what I was getting into. We all do. If I had bid a junior base for seniority, then asked for a COLA differential, that would be hypocritical.

NYC already has a built in COLA, it's called Juniority. If you can hold Captain, or Wide Body F/O, only in NYC, you are being paid more in NYC (COLA) than what you would be paid in ATL, because you can't hold that position (or pay) anywhere but NYC.

Now...LAX is a whole different can of worms, because they don't have as many positions available out there. If they had all the same equipment based there, as in NYC, and if they had to cover 3 airports (do they still cover only 2?) it might go as junior as NYC.

Of course they're doing it for the money. Why else would they do it?

Exactly! All this fantasy land talk of base raises/differentials is completely unworkable for CONUS cities. Millions of people live and raise families in NYC and LA for small fractions of the pay we earn. We should get more across the board, but NYC/LA pilots shouldn't get more pay just because they choose to live there.

Timbo,

I don't think LAX will go as junior as NYC - at least not until the military pulls out of SOCAL like they did in SFO. And contrary to what I see occasionally posted here plenty of new hire FOs want to get LAX based. The reason is that there are a ton of military guys who have already establish themselves in this area prior to getting hired by DAL.

With North Island, Miramar, March ARB, Pt Mugu NAS, Edwards AFB etc there are plenty of guys to feed the LAX base.

Now do these guys want to stay here for there whole careers retire and pay CA state income tax in retirement? That is a whole different question.

Scoop

PS - Still covering three airports but ONT trips are very very rare. Mostly LAX with some SNA for ER guys only.

Rumor: ALPA is constructively engaged with management and as a result pilots may be included in the 3% raises going to all Delta employees on April 1st.

That would be a nice little goodwill gesture just before contract negotiations open and it would also reduce by 3% the headline number coming out at the conclusion of those negotiations.

Front load and camouflage some of our pay restoration.

Sounds like a smart move (if true).

What do we have to give up for that?
