The only reason some of our pilots are getting multiple Green-slips is because the company made a conscious decision to delay hiring a while back. The short term goal of producing a quarterly profit outweighed properly manning the airline.

We are now hiring as fast as we can in order to properly man the airline. We all benefit by this increased hiring. Except the 747/777As (Sorry Timbo and Carl :)).

Is anyone suggesting that we make it easier and less costly for the company to run an undermanned operation?

I don't disagree, but in the future when we are rightly manned and the hiring pace is matching retirements and growth, and the GS becomes a rarity, will we all be equally happy because the benefit is now fairly distributed?

One of our fellow Delta pilots, Todd Perry, was diagnosed with ALS in August 2014. Unfortunately, his condition is advancing rapidly. He is restricted to a wheel chair, requires a feeding tube, and can no longer speak. Todd is a MSP 320 F/O, who has two children, ages 10 and 13. His wife, Karyn, is a schoolteacher.

Last week I was approached by a pilot and made aware of Todd’s situation. With the help of the Delta Care Fund, Andy Hummel and I we were able to grant the Perry family financial assistance. Additionally, with the help off Todd’s sister Sandy, we have created a Go Fund Me website. Our goal is to alleviate some of the burden from the family so they may spend more time with him.

Currently Todd is at home, with hospice care. He has made it clear that Delta was his second home and greatly misses being able to come to work. We are hoping, as a Delta family, to assist Todd’s family during this immensely difficult time.
If you can make a donation of any sort, please visit the go fund me site at:

Todd’s sister has also created a site where they are selling t-shirts with Todd’s smile. All proceeds will help the Perry Family. If you purchase a t-shirt, please take the shirt with you on a trip, and take a picture in it so we can send it to Todd.
The "SMILE" Logo is his legacy signature. Todd added this smile at the end of every signature. Let’s help Todd get his "SMILE'S" everywhere!

Done! Thanks for the post. If you have ever known anyone with this disease, you know how hard it is.

What do you think about making this it's own thread? While I am certain that Delta will take care of it's own, perhaps others in the APC community might want to help.

My mother-in-law was diagnosed with ALS last week and made a donation to Todd's at Gofundme. It's amazing that there is no treatment at all for ALS. Todd's seems to be progressing very fast. That's so sad.

They are going to retire the remaining 13 747's between next fall and the end of 17. During that time we get 10 A330 and it looks like 6 A350's in 17. That's a very limited amount of growth. We are taking 10 to 12 A350 in 18 and there are no planned 767 retirements so that will be the first year with real widebody growth.

Thanks that's the time frame I was alluding to. If the average retirement age at DAL keeps averaging 62.5 we're looking at 800+ retirements while growing the widebody fleet by 10-12 in 2018.

I would like to donate an item for a fundraiser for Todd. I have a little hobby business making airline tail flashes as "I love me" present for wives, family members, etc to give as a pilot present. Attached are several pictures of them. One of which is sitting on a very familiar desk as we speak. 100% of the money could go to Todd's family. PM or email me at [email protected] if interested in helping head something up. DW

You post that over and over again. Can you site a single source. The only source I have ever seen was the company requested it for trip coverage on 4 day and longer trips both domestic and international. We asked for and received two offsets for ALV 15 to prevent job loss which were including known absences in determining when a reserve is full and reducing when a reserve is full to the reserve guarantee from the ALV. So far it looks like we got the better deal!

From hearing from friends of mine who are on reserve on the 7ER it most definitely is not a better deal.

Done. I rounded up to the nearest 100 to pay the juice to gofundme, too.

God bless Todd and his family!
