What's the mystery? You fly it, you get paid. You trade it to someone else, THEY get paid. The really hard part of this is that there would have to be a computer program written that would take into account all the FARs that come into play with us that do not with FAs. I actually think that is quite a daunting task.

The ole WS vs GS decision. It's like chasing tail at a bar. You could get the guaranteed fat chick (WS), or stay at the bar all night with the hope that the bombshell (GS) will work out only to go empty handed.

Today is the 50th anniversary of me wandering into the DAL training center. Concrete block building with oil heat in the hallway,(You know, the one behind the abandoned gas station on Virginia Av.) Slide projectors and colored pencils. Deltah is an equal oppatunity employah.....thet means we hire yank..ees!
Yuk, yuk. I am reminded only because I received my notice to pay my $50 airport seat rental so I may, for one more year, watch the airplanes come and go. Hang in there boys and girls...........

JetBlue pilots have always had jetway trades. Worked great. If you gave anything away you lost any guarantee associated with what you gave up, and if you picked anything up, you got paid block.

They actually had a guy in MCO that came up with a program that would use jetway trades to reduce commutes. I know guys in MCO were using it and cutting out more than half of their commutes. Not sure how it worked, but anyone who wanted to participate emailed him their schedules then he put them into an excel program or something. It then spit out who should jetway trade with who to reduce the number of commutes they had.

Back in the stone ages, before computers, before email, before cellphones, I had buddies flying for People Express who lived north of Boston, who were based in Newark, who did jetway trades all the time.

They told me it was pretty much standard ops for the BOS commuters trying to get home, to fly the last legs of the night up to BOS, and go home. Then the next morning new commuters would fly the first leg down to EWR, then sign in for their scheduled trip, vs. ride the jumpseat to EWR. (they were pretty much flying for free, no official trip trade/pay issue)

The company never knew any different, nor did they care, as long as the airplane got to/from BOS/EWR.

In later years, after the Pan Am merger, I believe there was some of that going on with our BOS-LGA 727 shuttle service.

This program exists.

From what I recall there is an airline out there that utilizes FLICA. The Pilots, without the Schedulers involvement, select the pairing they want to modify and drop their victory laps. It happens live and best of all the transaction occurs instantly. The program's algorithm has all the criteria built in.

Great for the Pilots (instant satisfaction) and great for the overwhelmed Schedulers.

Many of us still employed yank..ees are in the $50 seat club for men too, and we have S-2 available!

I'll buy you a beer next time we sit together and watch our flight depart, although I might be a little more agitated than a retired guy!!!!

I was one of the lucky Yank ees who happened to interview with a former North East Chief Pilot! In ATL! I had no idea the Civil War was still on, until I went into Wagon Wheel Willy's (a country bar on Old National) and at 11pm the band started playing Dixie. The whole place jumped up and started clapping and singing.

I looked at my (yankee) buddy and said, "We'd better get out of here right now. I think this is the song they play just before they hang the Yankees!"

Play dixie on old national hwy now and I bet you get shot before the song is over...
