Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
I keep waiting for the company to close this loophole or have a min month requirement for benefits, insurance, etc.
I guess we don't have enough 62-64 year old guys that are dropping a couple trips a month to enjoy a partial retirement while keeping their benefits. If I was 60/when I'm 60, if I'm not retired yet, I plan on doing exactly that and keeping my insurance while taking it easy for the rest of my career while my 401K grows a few more %.
Hopefully our staffing will be adequate by then to be able to drop a trip or two.

It's easy to say you'll go low and relax at 62....when you are 40 or 50. When you are 62 with no DB plan and little in the bank, no so much. The 'smart play' I see is to bid international F/O and buddy bid with LCA's drop trips and only fly greenslips. That's why we have a lot of 25+ year F/O's on the 777 and other international wide bodies.
They make more than narrow body domestic Captain and work far less days, and when they do work, it's one leg to a 24+ hour layover in a nice hotel, not 9 hours at the airport Holiday Inn.
Once a pilot gets close to his guarantee, he can use a YS to fly to the ALV + 15. That's the only reason I would do it. It's like a WS for a reserve.
Of course, that's if he has the temerity to take a potential GS that a senior pilot is obviously entitled to.

The guys who are 62-64 today lost millions in their DB plans, with little time to recoup it. They are flying their butts off trying to put enough in the bank to retire and not have to be a greeter at Wal Mart.

And that's considered the short hotel. Because dammit, the FAA might require 10 hours but we will make sure it's only 9... but more than 8 so you can't call.

I hope my post didn't sound too insensitive, I know a lot of our guys are still recovering from the losses.
As far as the LCA thing, I don't know about the other intl categories, but on the 7ER in ATL, that seems like more of a seasonal strategy. I think NYC and DTW are still short in September but ATL has almost 100 guys on reserve in SEP. The seasonal nature of the International flying makes it hard to pick up greenslips during the off season unless you live in base and are willing to do 1 day GS.
It's still a much higher paying strategy than dropping two trips a month, and I'm sure the 777 and A330 which have longer trips probably allows for more GS during the whole year.

Now, there have been 2 excellent words of the day the last 2 days...
1. Temerity...def. when some dumb junior FO steals a senior FOs greenslip.

2. Pusillanimous...def. the bargaining stance of DALPA.

Hey Gang, a question that's a bit off topic. OK, way off topic.
I'm trying to hire a Nanny (I told you WAY off topic) and am trying to find a good background check service. Considering we're all gone half the month and many of us have silly spouses who think they want to work/school too, I thought maybe someone might have a good resource.
Anyone?
Thanks, please return to your normal discourse...
