Google, yes that Google, just jumped into the ADS-B Hardware market. Expect harware prices to adjust on an exponential scale.
ADS-B is the "internet" of the skies so it kinda makes sense and drones and deconfliction with manned aircraft is driving this...
Google targets low-cost ADS-B Out avionics market - 3/24/2015 - Flight Global
Cheers

- Win lottery
- Buy a cool jet
- Pay someone to manage it for me
Basically any place you need a transponder now, you'll need an ADS-B out in 2020. I looked about two years ago on cost, and it was ridiculous, but now it is much more reasonable ($3500 - $7000) and could pretty much be retrofit on any plane with a power source. I haven't installed one yet but will probably do it in a year or two so I can get the full traffic picture. Even the partial one/TIS I get now on the G1000 is pretty helpful for SA.
LOL. different type of flyin'!

It's the polar opposite of our day jobs and much more fun and relaxing!
The thing I loved most about my Cub was, no radio, no transponder, no lights, no distractions, just flying low and slow, chasing cows, water skiing, and landing on dirt roads and cow fields, oh, and never climbing above 800'.

Easily the most fun I've had in a "plane" in a while.

Looks like CDO's have made their way to us line dogs. Check out ATL 249 on 4-12-15. Sign in 2100, fly to DAB, 6.75hr layover, DH back at 0700.
Called skeds, they said it's ok, called DALPA sked (spoke with F., used to be a Delta sked) she said it's ok. Called my Capt rep., he said contractually it's ok but Delta "agreed" not to make this kind of trip. Asked me to forward the info on the trip... we'll see.
So apparently CDO's are legal... need to re-read my contract.

Wait. There's no way Delta would go back on its word and fail to honor an agreement. We have a values-based culture! RA talks about it all the time!
At Delta, we demand Values. Unless they cost the company too much.
