Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
"PR" (Partial RES day):
Let's say you're Payback Day ends and you start long-call at 1800. What's the earliest you can be assigned a rotation?
1800+12 (or +10 for SC), correct?

I certainly concur with your first paragraph regarding the list decade and stagnation. Why do you say a 16-17 year FO "has little hope" of moving beyond narrowbody domestic FO?
Any of them can now hold widebody FO (at the least) and with lots of retirements coming that will only get better... even if long overdue.

Had a total touchdown of a guy on a trip last week. He was on a 4 day GS, and he insisted on buying everything-- I couldn't force a beer on him or get the tips even. He even paid the cab driver tip and wouldn't let me! Topped it off by taking all the Flt Att out for dinner with us one night.
Never seen such a thing in 14 years; his answer when refusing to let me pay for anything was "Nope. Someday you'll be on a GS... pay it forward."
Besides all that, great guy and funnny, laughed the whole time. Just thought I should post up the "good guys" that are out there too.

I was just thinking these same things yesterday. It's very nice, and refreshing, to hear about the good guys/gals. Roadkill's post/experience fits the bill perfectly. Such good people should be celebrated and recognized as being part of the solution, not the problem.

It's the lost decade. I fly with a lot of guys who are stagnated in this very position. They are resentful of the stagnation. It makes for an unhappy person.
I fly with a lot of 16 to17 year FO's who are not even in the top 10% of seniority in their category. They have little hope of moving up beyond the narrowbody domestic category.
I know the noise in the cockpit effects all of us. We are always yelling at one another.
If you think ATL narrowbody has a lot of weirdness, you should have flown in DFW. There was some serious strangeness going on in DFW.

Dude,
I(We)have a very good job that pays well, requires almost no "home work", is very low stress (at least to me) and only requires my presence about 12-16 days a month. I get 5 weeks a vacation and have a sick leave policy that allowed me to have shoulder surgery and stay home to rehab, and I lost NO PAY!
Yeah, I've paid my dues and have been at it since college and the AF, but I consider myself lucky and blessed to have the career and the future retirement that I have.(Hired at 29 in a good time certainly helped) Most of my friends would trade me in a second!
Good on ya for branching out and having other careers and options. I always felt my best career path was this one.

Many friends were furloughed, thousands of co-workers lost pensions, many lost houses, cars, wives, etc over the uncertainties in this industry. Thousands of us lost five years of upgrades during a time when we planned on putting aside extra for retirement. We are all one doctor visit away from long term unemployment. The level of risk in our collectively preferred careers dictates we also have prudent backup plans.

1. Commute
2. Go back to the bottom 20% or so of the category.
3. Give up what little relative seniority you have scraped together so far.
For me personally, I'm not bitter at all. I choose to be happy. I'm content to stick it out where I am and look forward to the day when I crack the top 25% or so of my category and base. I have no desire to commute and have told myself I was going to stay put until I finally find out what it is like to be fairly senior in my seat. After that happens, I'll consider widebody FO or narrowbody CA upgrade. If retirement comes first....so be it. With all of the retirements and hiring it should get better. I hope so. So far not much has changed where I sit. At least I've finally cracked the 50% mark. This reply is not a "woe is me" response. Just want to make sure nobody gets "out of touch" by assuming everything is unicorns and rainbows now that we are retiring and hiring again.
