On the ER there has been one weird guy but he was nice. On the 88 in ATL though I flew with two guys who would yell at everybody. The Hermenator was the better of the two. I ended up getting off the trip and talking to prostans about one of them. Besides those two there were a lot of other guys who were minor jerks. 25% might be a lot but I would say at least 10%. Ironically I flew with Capt Happy and I enjoyed flying with him and thought he was a nice guy.

It's the PBS algorithm, which builds the captains lines first, then fills in the FO's. In the future, when computers get way more powerful, there may be enough processing power to build the lines at the same time, and give that option to captains.

There is one A on the 717 that lost it on a ramper on his first trip off oe and first leg. Ramper I believe got off the tug. FO has been telling the story to a lot of people but not sure the base.

But I flew with a few guys on the 88 that yelled at rampers and we're rough on the FAs. Just picking fights all of the time with everyone.

in fact I'll be honest, I saw more than a few with very lousy social and flight ops behavior on ATL88A in 5 years on it. and ive never saw anything remotely like it on the ER or 717.

And I hear it from many many ATL88Bs. Emphasize many. Some think it's 10%, others say 40%, and all of them are good people so they're not the common denominator. Id say 20-25% is a fair number. I've always thought that the reason for that was it was the junior plane in atlanta and attracted those upgrade asap types where you have a larger percentage of world revolves around me personalities.

But what I tell atl88 newbies who talk to me about it is that when you fly with a good 88 captain, that's what is normal and indicative of the rest of the airline.

I hear stories from As about miserable Bs too, and you realize they're going to one day be As and drive everyone nuts.

Funny thing is I flew with a 717A that made me miserable only to find out from another 717A that that particular bad apple drove every captain nuts on their previous plane.

It's a people thing, not a captain or FO thing, it's just inevitable with 12000 pilots some are going to be miserable to be around and for some reason some airplanes are accumulators for those kinds of people.

I mean if that wasn't the case then I guess they could remove the avoid employee # on pbs.
I flew the 88 15 years ago and did not enjoy it due to the captains and the training center (in the sim one day the instructor insists I use raw data for a holding pattern; OK I flew steam gauges a long time, not a problem; the very next sim another instructor yells at me for not using the FMS; this nonsense was the norm).

Apparently not much has changed and the toxic culture that is the 88 remains. That is why I am on the 717 and I think my FOs enjoy working with me. Yes we run the APU until ground air is hooked up... Yes we will start both on pushback if it looks like a short taxi... NO I don't gnash my teeth if after starting both gnd ctrl puts five aircraft in front of us and we taxi 2 eng for 7 minutes.

The 717 no doubt has its 2%ers as well but I like to think that I am part of a positive vibe and "culture." I rarely felt that way on the 88...maybe that's why I spent more than a dozen years on the 757.

I think you just insured that most new hires will put a bid in for anything but the MD88.

It was my left ring finger. It has some pins in it now but should be 100% in 4 to 6 weeks.

I never have felt... so out of the loop and out of touch.

I'm old.

Now I'm just going to be grouchy. And yell at people. Rappers in particular. I tripped to spell rampers but it won't let me. So I'm going to yell at rappers.

Did they seriously find this chick?

The cost to buy a sofa like that is relatively cheap. The cost to get rid of a sofa like that can easily be half your net worth or more!
